If I could give the operators of this safari zero stars, I would. It’s not a guarantee to see animals any time you’re on a safari, and we knew that going in, but our experience at Amagarh was so bad it borders on funny.
First, it is true that you will be asked to pay to fill any unfilled spots in our jeep - as we are foreign visitors, we were initially asked to pay the foreign price, and when we laughed, were “allowed” to only pay the local price for the extra seat.
Second, blankets are offered for rent at a charge of 200INR each - almost certainly a price inflated for our benefit, but such is life in India. Please note that while not 100% necessary, it is VERY cold otherwise during the winter.
Now the fun - within literal moments of entering the gates of Amagarh, our guide cut the ignition, turned to us and said “morning safari very bad, nothing, no antelope, no deer, nothing.” He then emphasized once again that we would see absolutely nothing, before taking off on a high-speed jeep tour of the reserve. He stopped on MULTIPLE occasions to hammer this point home - to such a degree that it prompted one member of our group to say, “Well then why would you sell tours if there are no animals?”
After only 48 minutes of the supposed 2.5 hour tour, we were offered to either loop the reserve a few more times, or call it quits. We opted to end the “tour” (if you can call it that) early, as none of us were particularly inclined to go for round two of off-road nihilism.
When we returned to the camp to rejoin our uber, our guide launched once again into a speech about how we would see nothing, and there was nothing to see - by this point, he was openly giggling. Our experience was unpleasant, boring, and borderline insulting - for a tour operated and vouched for by Rajasthan Tourism, we had hoped for better. Save your money and time, and...
Read moreThe most outrageous and dysfunctional booking procedure i have ever encountered.
The following is based on my understanding of the booking policies mentioned on the homepage and a phonecall i had with the booking agent of the agency: Bookings for the Leopard Reserve are made for 2500 per foreign person which has to be paid in advance to confirm the booking. Before starting the tour youll be told the number of co-passengers in your jeep (1-6 people in total). Since the minimum proce per jeep is 7000 for indians and 12000 for foreigners. You may be asked to pay a fresh additional 9500 rupees to fill in for empty seats in case youre unlucky enough to ride without other passengers. There is no cancellation option should you reject the additional fee. The best part is that the booking office denounces any responsibility for the distribution of passengers among the existing jeeps, its all done by the reserve administration and cannot be influenced by the customers. The company fails to provide detailed information about this ridiculous process, both on there homepage and in personal interaction. Wether passengers will be distributed evenly over the jeeps or vehicles will be filled on after the other; how vehicles costs will be split between foreigners and indians, who pay different prices, it all remains unclear. What you get is basically an offer for a safari for a random price, for foreigners somewhere between 2500-12000 rupees. Of course without cancellation, should you be unhappy with the total costs. The mere interaction with the responsible companies and their business structure was an unbelievably infuriating, exhausting and disappointing procedure. Its honestly hard to let go of the frustration...
Read moreThis is a beutiful reserve in aravali mountain range.Views are superb.Few tips for first time visitors This is a place well in the remote mountains. So getting cab/auto while coming back is difficult. Also internet range is sparce.Be sure to make good to and fro transport arrangements. If taking cab, use this location. There are many locations coming in amagarh result but some are not park gate. This one is park gate location. The park has no shops/tea stalls around as it is a 100% forest area.Make sure you have eaten something 1 hr before the whole 2.5 hours safari. Disposable mineral water bottles are discouraged. If you must, carry your water in a metal/food grade plastic permanent use bottle. If there are small kids, make sure they attend to their toilet needs before safari starts. There might not be a bathroom break. And there is no chance and permission of getting down from vehicle in forest buffer zone. This is a good area with mountain view but leopards may be camouflaged.Best memory is watching by human eye.If you must capture photo or videos, carry around a camera with good quality zoom lens. We spotted 1 leopard in mountain which was camouflaged and difficult to click. We got to see hyena which was a very beautiful moment. In rare case if there are even less than 6 people and only jypsy, you might be told to pay for remaining seats(if previously booked in shared mode, so that they don't...
