This temple is a hidden gem and an important first darshan spot for those visiting Mata Vaishno Devi. Located within the army cantonment area, it is well-maintained, peaceful, and far less crowded compared to other temples in the region. This makes the entire darshan experience smooth and time-efficient. A highlight of the visit is the darshan of the ancient Shani idol and the sacred Shivling, which hold immense spiritual significance. The temple also offers langar food for devotees, adding to the sense of community and devotion. Don’t miss the opportunity to drink water from the very old well inside the Mandir — it's a refreshing and spiritually uplifting experience. Overall, a serene and enriching place that deserves more attention and visits.

Nice and serene environment.

JAI MAA KOL KANDOLI

Everyone knows that Goddess Vaishno Devi resides on Trikuta mountain. But hardly anyone knows about the temple where the mother appeared a year-old girl. The name of this temple is Kol Kandoli Temple, which is in Nagrota, 14 km from Jammu city. According to the legend, Mata Vaishno Devi

appeared here (Kol Kandoli Temple) in the form of a 5-year-old girl. For about 12 years, the mother did penan this place. After which the mother sat here in the form of a pindi. Here the mother fulfills all the wishes of her devotees by giving darshan to her devotee the form of Swayambhu Pindi. It is also said that the mother used to play here in the form of a girl with the girls of the village. The villagers say that even too the mother comes here to play in the form of a girl.

Devi performed penance here for 12 years and performed yagyas for world peace. Mother Bhagwati has revealed silver bowls here 4 times and has given 3 types of food to lakhs of people. It is also said that when the mother hit the bowl on the earth to quench the thirst of the devotees, water started pouring out of the earth. Then people quenched their thirst by drinking water.

It is also said that during the Mahabharata period when the Pandavas were in an unknown abode. Then he came to know about this temple. So the Pandavas had worshiped here for many years to please the mother. Pleased on which the mother gave darshan to the Pandavas. And asked to build a temple here. Then the Pandavas had built the temple here in one night.

You wil! be surprised to know that this night was of 6 months. There is a Ganeshwari Jyotirlinga in the temple premises. It is said that during the construction of the temple, Bhima felt thirsty and started remembering his mother. Appearing in front of Maa Bhima, she told Bhima that there is no water system here. After this the mother went behind the temple and revealed a bowl, then this Jyotirlinga had appeared there. Then the mother said that where there is power, there must be Shiva.

There is a well in the temple, people drink their water to quench their thirst. People believe that drinking the water of this well removes all their sorrows. Before starting the ascent of Trikuta mountain in the temple of Kol Kandoli Mata, the first darshan has to be done here. Only then the journey of Maa Vaishno is...

This ancient temple is located at the outskirts of Jammu City en route to Katra. As per Devi Mahatamya devotees start their yatra by seeking darshan at this temple as it is regarded as the first darshan of Maa. The name of this temple is derived from the local language and has two words. Koul means Bowl & Kandoli means Marbles. Mythology says Mata Rani appeared here as a young girl of 5 years and played with marbles. The temple campus is big and there are statues of Nav Durga. In the backyard of the temple are two ancient trees. One has the statue of Hanuman Ji and the other has hundreds of wooden toy cradles hung on it. Devotees believe that one who hangs a toy cradle to this tree is blessed with a baby. Also, there are Ram Temple, Shiva temple and Shani temple. There is a well made by Bheem, the famous Pandava brother. As per the mythology Pandavas are known to have built this temple in one night. The water from the well built by Bheema is treated as holy water and is sweet.
