Everyone knows that Goddess Vaishno Devi resides on Trikuta mountain. But hardly anyone knows about the temple where the mother appeared a year-old girl. The name of this temple is Kol Kandoli Temple, which is in Nagrota, 14 km from Jammu city. According to the legend, Mata Vaishno Devi
appeared here (Kol Kandoli Temple) in the form of a 5-year-old girl. For about 12 years, the mother did penan this place. After which the mother sat here in the form of a pindi. Here the mother fulfills all the wishes of her devotees by giving darshan to her devotee the form of Swayambhu Pindi. It is also said that the mother used to play here in the form of a girl with the girls of the village. The villagers say that even too the mother comes here to play in the form of a girl.
Devi performed penance here for 12 years and performed yagyas for world peace. Mother Bhagwati has revealed silver bowls here 4 times and has given 3 types of food to lakhs of people. It is also said that when the mother hit the bowl on the earth to quench the thirst of the devotees, water started pouring out of the earth. Then people quenched their thirst by drinking water.
It is also said that during the Mahabharata period when the Pandavas were in an unknown abode. Then he came to know about this temple. So the Pandavas had worshiped here for many years to please the mother. Pleased on which the mother gave darshan to the Pandavas. And asked to build a temple here. Then the Pandavas had built the temple here in one night.
You wil! be surprised to know that this night was of 6 months. There is a Ganeshwari Jyotirlinga in the temple premises. It is said that during the construction of the temple, Bhima felt thirsty and started remembering his mother. Appearing in front of Maa Bhima, she told Bhima that there is no water system here. After this the mother went behind the temple and revealed a bowl, then this Jyotirlinga had appeared there. Then the mother said that where there is power, there must be Shiva.
There is a well in the temple, people drink their water to quench their thirst. People believe that drinking the water of this well removes all their sorrows. Kol Kandoli Temple is situated in Nagrota city in Jammu & Kashmir state ata distance of 14 km from Jammu. The temple is dedicated to Mata Vaishno Devi. The Goddess is established in this temple in the form of a pindi. It is believed to be good to visit this temple before starting the journey for Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. The temple is also known as first glimpse Kol Kandoli of Mata Vaishno Devi.
The temple derives its name from two words Kaul-Kandoli. Kol means bowl and Kandoli means marbles. The city was earlier known as Nagraj and spanned across 13 kosa area.
According to mythology, Mata Vaishno appeared here at the age of 5 years in the form of a little girl and did penance here for 12 years. After the penance, she settled here in the form of a pindi. In this temple, the Goddess Herself appears before the devotees in the form of a natural pindi and fulfils the wishes of Her devotees. The Goddess had herself played marbles and swing along with local girls here. During the 12 years penance, the Goddess performed many Havans for the world peace. Mahamaya had presented the silver bowls here four times. Mahamaya offered 36 types of food prepared in the silver bowls to 330 million deities.
When The Goddess shook the bowl on the ground, water started to coming out from the earth and then all the deities drank that water. The devotees then made a well there and named it after the Goddess. In the Mahabharata era when Pandavas were under Agyat Vaas, they got to know about the Goddess in Nagraj village.
