Elevation Difference: Coming from ranchi which is at 654m of elevation from sea level, one start climbing up and netarhat is at height of 1100+ meters. Time to visit: During winters when the sky is clear and winds are chilly. Distance Travelled: there are two routes to reach from ranchi to netarhat, the one which Google maps will suggest you is 149km which is a boring route. (RNC - bero - sisai - netarhart). What I do, I take (rnc - bero - loherdaga - (break point in "hotel red rock") - netarhat) which is also 150km with much better road and view.. Our stay: Lake view resort which is very near to koel view point and pine forest. Location: The view is terrific and mesmerizing, it's on you how much you can consume and how much you want to capture through your lens. Better place to see and feel the cold breeze and early morning sun on the face and much better place to see the sunrise than the so called sunrise point. It's not about the location it's about the exploration and crunching the distance during the ride you do that matters. Keep the place clean and respect the nature, we got only one mother earth.

Koel View Point Sunrise, Netarhat Nestled in the serene landscapes of the Chota Nagpur Plateau in Jharkhand. Netarhat is a quaint hill station often referred to as the "Queen of Chotanagpur". This picturesque destination is known for its breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. Lush greenery and pleasant climate, making it a perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. Situated 3700 feet above sea level. Located 2 km from Netarhat bus stand. The place is covered by tall pyne trees and downward slope ends in the forest. The sun rises in the distant horizon and fills the area with a beautiful orange hue. Koel river flows in the forest 10 km from this place. One should reach the point before sunrise, to observe the beautiful orange sky. During sunrise the flowing waters of Koel become reddish orange and make the view awesome from a distance. Not to miss during visit to Netarhat. There is no entry fee. One makeshift food stall is there. You can have a freshly cooked breakfast from this Shop . ***

Koel View Point, located near Netarhat in Latehar district, Jharkhand, stands out as one of the region’s most remarkable natural lookouts. About 2km from Netarhat bus stand and nestled deep among forests of chir pine and sal, it provides an immersive introduction to the unspoiled beauty of the Chotanagpur plateau.

Scenic Beauty & Atmosphere The highlight of Koel View Point is its panoramic, sweeping view across green valleys and thick forests, with the Koel River—one of Jharkhand’s major rivers—flowing nearly 10km below the site. At dawn and dusk, the river’s surface catches the golden and crimson rays of the sun, transforming the valley into a spectacle of colors. The surrounding pine and sal forests further amplify the tranquil ambiance, letting visitors bask in the cool breeze and soothing sounds of the jungle.

When the sky is clear, the play of light on the river is particularly memorable. Sunrise and sunset are widely considered the best times to visit, when the river and clouds are illuminated in a mesmerizing palette. Some visitors also point out the unique experience of the river under moonlight, when the waterway appears to turn into a silvery ribbon threading its way through the valley.

The Experience Accessing the viewpoint requires either a short drive or a leisurely walk through the tall forest. Benches and railings have been installed at the edge of the valley, giving travelers a gentle, secure place to sit and take in the sights or snap photographs. The location is relatively quiet, often less crowded, making it ideal for relaxation, introspection, and photography.

Many travelers commend the peacefulness and the way the viewpoint is enveloped in nature. It’s a great spot for nature lovers, families, and couples seeking a serene moment away from busy tourist sites. The pine forest on both sides offers plenty of shade and beautiful locations for a family picnic or quiet contemplation.

Local Color & Culture On the banks of the Koel River, visible from the viewpoint, lie several small villages inhabited by indigenous tribal communities. While you’re unlikely to visit these villages directly from the viewpoint, their presence adds a touch of living history and authenticity to the landscape, offering broad possibilities for cultural photography and observation.

Considerations While the view is mostly of dense forest and valley, during the dry season, the Koel River may be faint or hidden below the leafy canopy—some reviewers note that the river itself can be difficult to spot. The site is well-maintained, but facilities are basic, so it’s good to bring your own refreshments. The approach road can be patchy, but the walk through the tall pine stands near the site is enjoyable and...
