Magnolia Sunset Point, located near Netarhat in Jharkhand’s Latehar district, is a mesmerizing spot known for its breathtaking panoramas and tranquil ambiance. Often called one of Netarhat’s most iconic viewpoints, it offers visitors an unparalleled experience of watching the sun dip below the horizon, painting the sky with myriad shades of red, pink, orange, and purple. Netarhat itself is situated around 160 kilometers west of Ranchi, accessible via smooth roads that traverse through scenic landscapes.
The point is perched atop the lush, forested hills of the Chotanagpur plateau, covered with bamboo, pine, and sal trees. The drive to Magnolia Point is as captivating as the destination, winding through wildflower-studded paths and rocky terrain that showcase the region’s natural beauty. Upon arrival, visitors find well-maintained platforms and viewing areas that provide ample space to watch the sunset in comfort. The site is easily approachable, located about 10 kilometers from the Netarhat residential school, with roads that are relatively level compared to other mountain routes.
Magnolia Sunset Point is steeped in poignant history entwined with nature’s splendor. The tale of “Magnolia,” a British officer’s daughter who fell in love with a local shepherd and tragically leapt from the cliff with her horse due to parental disapproval, adds a layer of romantic melancholy to the experience. At the viewpoint, visitors can see a horse statue and murals commemorating this poignant story, blending the natural environment with emotional resonance.
The sunset views from Magnolia Point are often described as “otherworldly.” The valley and surrounding hill ranges shift hues as the sun sets, with the sky dramatically evolving through a spectrum of colors that photographers and nature lovers eagerly capture. The expansive view extends across far-reaching valleys and distant hill ranges, all blanketed in rich greenery. The site’s serene atmosphere is enhanced by gentle evening breezes and the sounds of rustling leaves, offering an ideal place to reflect or connect with nature.
While the focus is undoubtedly the sunset, visitors can also enjoy exploring the surrounding forests and trails. The area is known for its peacefulness, away from the noise of urban life. However, it is essential to plan the visit to allow enough time to reach well before sunset and find a good viewing spot, particularly during peak seasons when the area can attract increased visitors. Facilities like eateries are currently limited, so bringing one’s refreshments and light snacks is advisable.

That's ll there is. A scenic sunset point from where there is a spectacular view of the sun going down. A sculpture of a horse and one of a boy and a girl, and near it a few small sculptures ( for lack of a better word) of a few animals nearby.
Around this is a story. A story of a lady called Magnolia who was supposed to have been madly in love with a shepherd and since she couldn't marry him, supposed to have gone off the cliff complete, horse and all to her death.
The sunset though is as great a sight as it can be anywhere. If you want to see the sunset plan being there early based on the season otherwise you will miss the event. It is only about 15 minutes drive from Hotel Prabhat View.
From where you park, it is a flat walk of 2 to 3 minutes. Take a camera, you can shoot well. The total time from hotel back to hotel should be just around an hour. Magnolia Point is appx 10kms off Netarhat that offers a spectacular sun set on the valley. A must visit at Netarhat. A lifetime viewing though you might have seen sunsets in many a beaches. Make sure to reach there well before the scheduled time. The Point is well maintained and view is absolutely clear. We found this sunset point very good. It was very calm & scenic there. The view from here was breath taking. man karta hai roj jaa ke...

The road leading up to this place is good, and to be honest, you'll like the journey. You'll get the feeling of moving through the clouds (in literary terms: piercing through the clouds). That's surely a wonderful sight.
Now as for the Sunset, well, we were not so lucky to see that beautiful event taking place because of thick clouds surrounding the entire environment (that's another sight, though). But what I did experience, was the formation of clouds: We really saw clouds gathering down at the foothills and slowly rising above (sorry, I couldn't take any videos of that, but do check my uploaded pictures attached here, and you'll get it). That's all there is to see here. Anyways, Enjoy...
P.S. In my opinion, I think that the sunset is a rare sight here, because (c'mon, let's face it) it's a hilly area, or rather, I would say that it's a place on top of a mountain. And here, the weather can change vastly in a matter of few moments. So, if you're lucky enough, you'll really get to see a...
