Shri Sammed Shikharji, located in the serene landscape of Jharkhand, is a sacred pilgrimage destination for Jain devotees and a spiritual haven for seekers of peace and tranquility. Having recently embarked on this revered journey, I was profoundly moved by the spiritual significance and natural beauty that surround this sacred mountain.

As I approached Shri Sammed Shikharji, the sense of reverence and sanctity enveloped me. The grandeur of the mountain, rising majestically against the clear blue sky, exuded an aura of divinity. This revered site is believed to be where Lord Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism, attained enlightenment, making it one of the most significant pilgrimage spots in Jain tradition.

The climb to Shri Sammed Shikharji is both physically demanding and spiritually enriching. The 24 sacred Jain temples atop the mountain, known as "tirthas," are connected by a series of well-maintained trails. The journey, known as "Tirthankara Trail" or "Parikrama," allows devotees to engage in self-reflection and contemplation as they ascend towards spiritual awakening.

The tranquility of Shri Sammed Shikharji is palpable. The serene atmosphere, unbroken by the noise of modern life, offers a peaceful respite from the outside world. The sacred chants and prayers echo through the mountain, creating an ambiance that nurtures spiritual introspection and devotion.

The temples at Shri Sammed Shikharji are architectural marvels, adorned with intricate carvings and artistic details. The sight of the ancient temples, set against the backdrop of pristine nature, instills a sense of wonder and admiration for the rich cultural heritage of Jainism.

The panoramic view from the mountain's summit is breathtaking. The sweeping vistas of the surrounding valleys and rolling hills create a sense of oneness with nature. It is as if the beauty of the landscape reflects the soul's inner journey towards enlightenment.

During my visit, the hospitality of the local community and the dedication of the temple priests added to the spiritual experience. Their warm welcome and willingness to share the teachings of Jainism deepened my understanding of the faith and its profound philosophy.

In conclusion, Shri Sammed Shikharji is more than just a pilgrimage destination; it is a sacred journey that elevates the soul and connects one with the divine. The experience of ascending the holy mountain, surrounded by nature's majesty, leaves a lasting impact on the heart and mind. Whether you are a devout Jain or a seeker of spiritual solace, Shri Sammed Shikharji offers an unforgettable experience that transcends the physical realm and touches the depths...

Hello all.. here is my review on various aspects -

1.I travelled from Kolkata and it took me nearly 7hrs with a comfortable drive. The road is pretty good and as you enter Jharkhand state, it's pretty scenic as the state is less populated and greenery all around.Across the travel, the road was fantastic I was the oy tourist iny hotel. And the town of Madhuban/Shikarji is badly affected due to COVID lockdown. There are about 10K empaneled "Doli" walas and because of No Tourists these days, their financial condition is pretty bad and they are on the mercy of tourists for any extended tips for thier livelihood The hiking is about 8 hrs for overweight (90kg) people like me and travel time will reduce by 2 hrs for fit people.Take another 3-4 hrs for descending and breaks etc.But One should be prepared for a non-stop 12-14 hrs of walk 4.The hill is pretty steep and one of the toughest I have trekked. I have been to Vaishnav Devi, Tiger Ness and this was most difficult one.It is almost 1/5th of mt.everst. From foothills till uphills there are cemented road being created, so it's not a slippery track 5.There are Dolis which one can opt for other than walking. This costs 3200 bucks for one person. During lockdown, a few bike option was also available but guess, it's very temp arrangement. We walked and didnt resort to comfortable ootions. We were 3 people but ideally suggestnfornsuch a trek 2-3 families togther is a good option. Unfortunatey, there were hardly any shops open and we were onlu tourists from outside. There were a few local people around too who had come to visit the pilgrimage. Pros : One can get good Jungle view,no problem in walking in Jungle even at 2am, fresh air, great view as you climb up, clean cemented pathway Cons : Since it's a steep hike, expect the trust to.put up good signages of how many KM left to each destination. It was a clear miss and I was really disappointed as was not knowing how much was left to climb up, when I felt to withdraw. There is no food facility at the top.Ideally, the trust should provide free/nominal charge food facility No place to rest at the hill top..After so many hrs of walking, there shoud be proper facility for rest/fooding Overall, it was a nice trip and we enjoyed. Note- In all of Madhuban town Vodafone doesnt work here, airtel had ocassional Connectivity,...

Shikarji is the place where 20 of the 24 Jain tirthankaras attained Moksha. This pilgrimage site considered the most important Jain Tirth along with Ashtapad,Girnar,DilwaraTemples of Mount Abu & Shatrunnjaya are known as Pancha Tirth.

Considered as one of the Holiest of all Jain Teerths, Shikharji Temple in Jharkhand is one of the most visited Jain pilgrimage places. The temple is perched atop Parasnath Mountain, the highest among the Parasnath Range. This temple is popular among the Jain followers as this is the place where twenty out of twenty-four Tirthankaras attained Moksha or Freedom from the Cycle of Rebirth.

The name of the temple Shikharji has been given due to its location. Shikharji means the highest or venerable peak. The temple also gained a name as Sammed Shikhar or zenith of concentration. It is here that many Tirthankars indulged in meditative practices or Samadhi. The name of the hills where the temple is located is Parasnath, and the meaning of the word Parasnath is derived from the name of the twenty-third Teerthankara, Parshvanatha. He also attained Moksha at this temple. Today, this site is not only famous as a pilgrimage site but also a major tourist attraction. People visiting this place also enjoy adventure sports activities like Parasailing and Paragliding.

To reach this temple, the pilgrims have to pass through the Madhuban Forest. The area between the Summit and the Gandharva Nala Stream is considered very holy by the Jainism Followers. The pilgrims go for a parikrama or a round trip, almost 54 km distance on foot or on a doli to complete the pilgrimage.

Built in the 18th Century, the Shikharji Temple is known for its architectural splendor and historical significance. The idol is quite old but the religious sentiments associated with it are still strong. Beautiful murals on the temple walls showcase the basic tenets of the Jain religion. Dating back to 1678, some Sanskrit inscriptions can be seen at the base of the image. Pilgrims visiting this temple also visit Bhomiyaji Temple, located at the base of Shikharji Temple.

How to Reach Parasnath Station is the nearest Railway Station to reach this Temple. It is located in Dumri Jharkhand, almost 25 km away from Madhuban. Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport, Durgapur is the nearest Airport to reach...
