Upper Ghaghri Waterfalls, located near Netarhat in the Latehar district of Jharkhand, India, is one of the hidden gems of the region. Nestled deep within lush forests and surrounded by the pristine natural beauty of the Chotanagpur Plateau, this waterfall is a haven for nature lovers, photographers, and adventurers alike. Here’s a detailed review of the place:

#Natural Beauty and Scenic Splendor Upper Ghaghri is renowned for its breathtaking surroundings, with the waterfall itself cascading from a considerable height amidst thick vegetation. The sound of water crashing down into the pool below creates a peaceful ambiance, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the tranquility of the environment. The area is covered in rich flora, offering a vibrant green backdrop that contrasts beautifully with the white water. During the monsoon season, the falls are at their most spectacular, gushing with full force, though even in the dry season, they maintain a quiet, serene flow.

#Hiking and Trekking Experience Reaching Upper Ghaghri requires a bit of trekking, which adds to the allure of the journey. The trek is not too strenuous but can be a bit challenging for those who are not accustomed to hiking. However, the pathway is rewarding, with scenic views of dense forests, small streams, and diverse wildlife. The clean, unspoiled environment is a delight for trekkers. For adventure enthusiasts, the trek combined with the destination provides the perfect mix of adrenaline and serenity.

#Ideal Picnic Spot Many visitors to Upper Ghaghri come with the intention of spending a peaceful day amidst nature. The area around the waterfall is ideal for picnics, with large flat rocks where people can sit, eat, and relax. The cool, misty breeze from the waterfall provides a refreshing escape from the heat, making it an excellent spot for a family outing or a day with friends. However, visitors should be mindful of leaving no waste behind to maintain the pristine condition of the place.

#Wildlife and Birdwatching The waterfall is located in a forested area that is rich in biodiversity. If you’re lucky, you might spot some of the local wildlife or a variety of birds that inhabit the region. Birdwatchers, in particular, will find Upper Ghaghri a rewarding spot, as the forest is home to numerous species. The melodious sounds of birds singing add to the soothing natural experience.

#Lack of Commercialization One of the most appealing aspects of Upper Ghaghri is its lack of commercialization. Unlike many other popular tourist destinations, this waterfall is not overcrowded with shops, restaurants, or vendors. This allows for an authentic and peaceful experience, away from the hustle and bustle of urban life. However, the lack of facilities also means visitors need to carry their own food and water, as there are no nearby amenities.

#Best Time to Visit The best time to visit Upper Ghaghri Waterfalls is during the monsoon season (July to September) when the waterfall is in full flow, and the surrounding area is lush and green. However, winter (October to February) is also a great time to visit if you prefer cooler temperatures and lighter crowds. Summer can be hot and dry, though the forest provides some respite from the heat.

#Accessibility While Upper Ghaghri is a bit off the beaten path, it is accessible from nearby towns like Netarhat, which is about 10 kilometers away. The roads leading to the falls are in decent condition, but it is advisable to have a local guide or proper navigation, as the area is somewhat remote. For travelers relying on public transport, reaching the spot may require a combination of buses and some walking.

#Safety Considerations Although the waterfall area is generally safe, visitors should exercise caution while trekking, especially after rain when the paths can become slippery. Swimming in the pool at the base of the waterfall is not recommended during the monsoon season due to strong currents. Visitors should also be aware of potential wildlife encounters and remain on...

Upper Ghaghri Waterfalls is a lesser-known yet captivating natural waterfall located near Netarhat, in the Latehar district of Jharkhand. Netarhat itself is a famous hill station in Jharkhand, renowned for its scenic beauty, pleasant climate, and numerous waterfalls nestled amid dense forests and the Chotanagpur plateau. The Upper Ghaghri Falls, situated close to Netarhat town, lies on the Ghaghri River, which is part of the Auranga River basin.

While the more famous Lower Ghaghri Falls attracts many tourists due to its height and dramatic cascade, the Upper Ghaghri Falls offers a quieter, more secluded experience. It is positioned upstream from Lower Ghaghri Falls, near the Netarhat Dam, and is relatively smaller in size. Nonetheless, it is a scenic spot surrounded by lush greenery and forested hills that embody the pristine charm of Jharkhand’s natural landscape.

The waterfall itself is a cascade flowing over rocky terrain, creating an invigorating atmosphere with the sound of rushing water and the cool mist that settles in the air around it. This area is ideal for nature lovers and those seeking peaceful retreats away from crowded tourist spots. The environment around the falls is dense with vegetation common to the plateau region, such as sal and mixed hardwood forests, which provide a rich habitat for local wildlife and contribute to the area's biodiversity.

Netarhat's location at an altitude of about 1,071 meters above sea level enriches the overall experience of visiting Upper Ghaghri Falls. The elevated plateau offers panoramic views of surrounding hills and valleys, enhancing the beauty of the falls. The waterfall is especially spectacular during the monsoon season, from June to September, when the water volume swells, cascading down with full force, creating a mesmerizing sight for visitors.

Accessibility to Upper Ghaghri Falls is relatively straightforward for travelers based in or visiting Netarhat. Netarhat is well connected by road from Ranchi, the state capital, and other nearby towns. While local transport options exist, trekking or walking within the nearby forest paths often enhances the adventure for visitors seeking a closer connection with nature.

Besides Upper Ghaghri Falls, Netarhat is home to several other notable waterfalls, including Lower Ghaghri Falls, Sadni Falls, and Kapildhara Falls, each offering unique natural settings and scenic viewpoints. This rich cluster of waterfalls makes Netarhat a favored destination for tourists, trekkers, and photographers, particularly during the rainy season.

Overall, the Upper Ghaghri Waterfall in Netarhat offers a serene and beautiful escape embedded in Jharkhand’s wilderness. It reflects the region’s ecological richness and provides an excellent setting for appreciating the power and tranquility of flowing water amidst a backdrop of verdant hills and forests. The site is best visited during monsoon and post-monsoon months for the most vibrant natural display, making it an essential part of the Netarhat water tourism circuit...

There is totally Greenery area, you will reach here through green forest, look like heaven ☺️but I didnot liked so much as had nothing happening to do except just sit and watch. The height of fall is very less and one will not get the splashes of waterfall which is so energetically enjoyment. And there is the stagnant water type smell although the water from the falls constantly flows. Surrounded by lots of trees and herbs with very less visitors.okkhh go and click photo one times but yeah there is Greenery snd green plant.you can go one time nd click photo but we careful bcoz there were many pieces of beer bottles and pieces of glass which can hurt youu. Keep your step very carefully.

Yes just one thing that there is square cemented boundaries have been made in which to bath or dip as apart from it will be risky. But again the water are stuck there due to pressure of the flow from waterfall thus making it smelly.

Honestly I didnot liked as I am Taekwondoist and Sports person so like some being active but their at Upper Ghaghri didnot tempted. Will suggest all to Do it visit LOWER GHAGHRI WATERFALL which is 8.9 km from Upper Ghaghri.Which going lower Ghaghri can just half for half n hour here as it will be on the way Netarhat is my favourite...
