Driving through the Agumbe Ghat road on our way to Sringeri was an unforgettable experience — a journey that felt like stepping into a living postcard. The narrow hill road is filled with deep, steep curves that demand a slow and careful pace, especially during peak hours when traffic can get heavy, as it did during our visit. But despite the delays, every moment spent winding through the lush greenery was worth it.

As we ascended, the view transformed into a surreal landscape of thick forests, mist-kissed hilltops, and cloud-wrapped valleys. It felt like we were climbing into the sky, with each bend revealing something even more magical than the last. There’s something deeply calming about being surrounded by such untouched natural beauty — the kind that makes you roll down your window just to breathe in the fresh, earthy air.

The road, though a bit challenging, was well-maintained, and the overall cleanliness of the surroundings added to the charm. The occasional stop in traffic gave us time to soak in the scenery, take a few pictures, and appreciate the calm that’s so rare in city life.

If you're heading toward Sringeri or just exploring the Western Ghats, Agumbe Ghat is more than just a road — it's an experience. Just be prepared for a slow journey, and trust me, you won’t want to rush it anyway.

Highly recommend for nature lovers, road trippers, and anyone looking to feel truly immersed in the serene magic of the...

Awesome nature feel, fog and mind-blowing 🍃🏝️🏞️🌍❤️🌍🌍❤️❤️ Agumbe Ghati, a region in Karnataka known for its scenic beauty and heavy rainfall, has been experiencing landslides and roadblocks due to the ongoing monsoon rains. The latest updates indicate that the district administration has restricted heavy vehicle traffic on the Agumbe Ghati section of National Highway 169A from June 15 to September 30, 2025, allowing only light vehicles to ply through the area. This decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to prevent accidents and ensure public safety, given the increased risk of landslides and road damage during the monsoon season. The administration has advised travelers to take alternative routes and cooperate with the restrictions in place.

Located on a mountain pass that connects the plains of Karnataka with the coastal region, Agumbe is covered with verdant forests, sparkling streams and little cascades, making the region in the Western Ghats virtually a Garden of Eden. It receives an average rainfall of about 8000 mm and thus called “Cherrapunji‎ of South India”. The view of the Sun setting into the Arabian Sea from Agumbe is not to be missed as it offers a clear line of sight of about 40 km. The world-famous herpetologist Romulus Whitaker has set up a tropical research station called the Agumbe Rainforest Research Station (ARRS) to study the endangered King Cobra species, which is also a major attraction. The famous TV serial ‘Malgudi Days’ was shot across...

One of the nicest place to visit. You can experience the magic of pleasing nature. Driving is quite challenging due to lots of hairpins. The road ends at Kundadri view point which is a very nice and beautiful place. Food, snacks, drinks etc are not available at the view point. Also we have to come back before 18:00 hr (there is check post like setup on the way). Parking space is available. There was no crowd when we visited there. And surprisingly there is no entry fee to visit this view point.

Agumbe ghats is one of the most challenging and dangerous ghats to drive on during the monsoons. The ghat passes through Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuary and it is one of the most scenic routes filled with greenery and mist. One has to be careful at the hairpin bends as the traffic kind of gets packed at places due to huge trucks and buses. One has to pass through the ghats within 6 PM and one can stop to view the sunset at the sunset viewpoint somewhere in the middle of the ghat section.
