Apsarkonda is an emerging tourist village near Honnavar, in the district of Uttara Kannada, Karnataka, India. It is situated 8 km from the Honnavar bus stand Apsarkonda means Pond of angels. This is named after a pond facing the Beach. The legend associated with the name of the waterfall is that it was the chosen place of the angels to take a bath and relax There is Maha Ganapati and Ugra Narasimha temple, behind which you find Apsarkonda waterfalls. There is a Pandava caves which is of historical significance. According to mythology Pandavas stayed during their Vanavasa Apsarkonda is known for its unexplored beaches. At a distance of 500 m from Apsara Konda Bus Stop, 7 km from Honavar, 28 km from Kumta and 20 km from Murudeshwar, Apsara Konda Falls is a small waterfall located in the Uttara Kannada (North Canara) district of Karnataka. It is one of the scenic tourist places near Murudeshwar. The water cascades down from a height of 10 meters into a pond below. The specialty of this pond is that it faces the sea and appears like a lagoon. People say that Angels used to come from heaven and take bath in that pond, hence the name Apsara Konda. Reaching the base of the waterfall is an easy as steps have been built to make the trail easier for the public. A unique fact about the waterfall is that the water flows down through the roots of a peepal tree while descending to the pond below. The pond is very safe for swimming and playing. Just few mins walk from the falls is a magnificent hill which has a viewpoint. The hill and beach offer a beautiful view of sunset. Apsara Konda Hill contains many small and big caves known as Pandava Caves. People believe that Pandava's had stayed in these caves during their exile. Karnataka tourism department has taken initiatives to develop this place as major tourist attraction. The department built a beautiful park in the hillock and boating is initiated in the pond. As a result Apsara Konda is witnessing many tourists these days. There is a beautiful temple - Umamba Maha Ganapathi and Ugra Narasimha Temple and a branch of Ramachandrapura Matt, Hosanagar. Other tourist attractions near to the falls are Kasarkod beach, Basavaraja Durga and Idagunji Maha Ganapathi Temple. From Honavar there is bus facility to Apsara Konda but frequently is quite less. Better to go by own vehicle or hire a vehicle from Honavar. There is a signboard after Kasarkod to reach Apsara Konda. Visitors have to take turn from this signboard and the waterfall is about 1.5 km from here. The best time to visit this falls is from October to February.

This small waterfall is located close to the beach, making it an attractive stop for visitors exploring the area. Upon arrival, you'll find a designated parking area where a fee is collected before you head to the falls. There is a small shop near the entrance that sells snacks and water bottles, which is convenient if you need any refreshments during your visit. The waterfall itself is quite picturesque and can be a refreshing spot, especially on a hot day. However, during my weekend visit, the experience was somewhat diminished by the large number of tourists. Many visitors were playing directly in the falls, leading to overcrowding and visible pollution in the water. I was concerned about both cleanliness and safety, as the area does not appear to be well maintained and there are no staff or security present to monitor the activities around the waterfall. Another major issue I observed was the behavior of some groups at the site. Several individuals were drinking openly and creating a lot of noise, which disrupted the otherwise peaceful environment and could be uncomfortable for families or those seeking a quiet spot. Given these concerns, I strongly feel that local authorities should take action to improve both the safety and maintenance of this place. Stricter regulations and regular supervision could go a long way in preserving this attraction for everyone to enjoy.

If you're a resident of Kumta/Honnavar or nearby places then this place is not for you because as a local people you don't like to go for a weekend refreshment just to see the cascades(small waterfall). The falls is neither Big nor has some steepness in it. Instead this is one small knop where you will see some water falling in it. But on the other side this is a tourist attraction spot for those who are in Cities like Bangalore or the ones who haven't seen nature. On the positive side this falls has a park associated with it, you can walk inside and can sit, relax or enjoy the beauty of the nature. Entry ticket is there for this park I guess 10 rs per person. If you go to end of the park then you can also experience the top view of the beach called "Apsarkonda Beach". You can click some good shots inside the park and top view of the beach as well. You will see some artificial animals inside the park in the form of statues. But not recommended if you want to swim and chill out in falls instead you can visit "Vibhuti falls" which is approximately one and half hour journey from Honnavar. Good time to visit is in the rainy season from July to September since this is a small falls you will see some good amount of water in this season. You can try till December but don't go between January to May/June, you will not see any water here.

Tucked away near the coastal town of Honnavar in Uttara Kannada district, the Apsarakonda Waterfalls is a hidden gem that beautifully combines nature, mythology, and tranquility. The name Apsarakonda literally means “Pond of the Angels”, and true to its name, this serene spot feels like something straight out of a fairytale.

Natural Beauty: Apsarakonda is a small but charming waterfall, cascading gently into a clear, shallow pond surrounded by lush greenery and rocky outcrops. Unlike massive and thundering waterfalls, Apsarakonda is more about calmness and beauty than sheer force. It's perfect for a relaxed picnic, short hike, or simply soaking in nature’s quiet.

Mythological Significance: According to local legends, celestial nymphs (Apsaras) used to bathe in the pond here, giving the place its name. The peaceful environment and natural pool beneath the falls do give a sense of divine serenity, as if it were indeed a favorite spot of heavenly beings.

Highlights: Safe for Families & Kids: The water is shallow and gentle, making it safe and enjoyable for children and elders.

Sunset Viewpoint: Just a short walk from the waterfall takes you to a sunset viewpoint overlooking the Arabian Sea—an absolutely stunning sight you shouldn't miss.

Caves and Gardens: The area around the waterfall includes Pandava Caves, small temple structures, and a well-maintained garden, making it a rounded experience.

Things to Know: Best time to visit: Post-monsoon season (August to January) when the falls are full and the surroundings are lush.

Entry: Free or minimal entry fee.

Timing: Open during daylight hours; it’s best to visit in the morning or evening for pleasant weather.

Accessibility: Some walking or minor climbing is involved, but it's not difficult.

Final Thoughts: Apsarakonda Waterfalls is an ideal getaway for those looking for a peaceful, lesser-known spot in coastal Karnataka. Its mix of natural charm, mythology, and scenic beauty makes it a perfect place for nature lovers, photographers, and spiritual seekers alike.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐½ (4.5/5) Calm, clean, and beautiful—an underrated gem worth...
