Read moreHebbe Falls is truly one of the most beautiful waterfalls of Karnataka. It is situated near Kemmanagundi and can be covered in an hour drive from Chikmagalur.
The Hebbe Falls is situated deep inside the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary. Normal cars not allowed in this path. People have to drop their vehicles at the gate, get a 400 Rs ticket and then board one of the jeeps run by the forest department. Luckily our driver arranged two seats for us at the jeep of the government resort of Kemmanagundi, so this reduced our wait time. Just as we entered we found that the jeep was already waiting for us with other tourists who were staying at the resort. We paid the ticket price and started our off roading.
As we went in peak monsoon, the entire route was covered in thick fog. It felt we were living inside our dreams. Our vehicle initially went through rugged mountain terrains, but slowly it went to the thick forest sections of the extended Bhadra Sanctuary. Our jeep halted at its designated point and we were asked to trek for about few minutes to reach the falls. Trekking shoes or shoes with good grip are recommended if visiting monsoon, because some sections turned quite slippery and people were slipping left and right, in that section. We checked our footings, and crossed several cute bridges over water streams until we could finally hear the gushing waterfall.
The first view of the falls literally blew our mind. We had never seen such a huge waterfall before. The water fell with such a huge force that it created a mild drizzle in its surroundings with its sprinkles. The authorities had barricaded the main plunge pool beneath the waterfall for safety reasons, and we had to take pictures from in front of the barricade. I remember getting soaked wet from the sprinkles while trying to get a pic. It felt like trying to pose in a sprinkling shower with shoes and raincoats. The phones were also getting super drenched while trying to use it to take snaps. It is better to carry a waterproof cover for the phone while visiting the falls.
We are usually given about 45 min to 1 hour for the two and fro trek and spending time and spending some time near the falls, but, the drivers usually wait for people who get a little late in returning. The total to and fro jeep journey and the visit almost takes 2.5 to 3 hours, so it is better to start the ride early in the first half of the day after reaching...
