It was constructed by the commander in Army of Badami Chalukya, Mahadeva. It has a bountiful 64 pillar Mantapa with Nataraja in mid of the roof, and inside the temple you will find the detailed carvings on door jams and lintels. This temple complex also houses two other temples constructed by him in the memory of his parents, called Murthinarayana and Chandraleshwari. It also has, minor shivalayas around the big steeped tank, which is renovated, situated just behind the temple. You will also find big pond in the front of the temple. The inscription found in this complex states this temple as "Emperor of Temples", or "Devalayagala Chakravarti". It is indeed when you compare with any temples built in or before 11th century. Temple is visible from the main road. The access road from the pond side is under construction. Parking for two and four wheeler is free. As such any entry fees collected until my last visit. Mandapa can be accessed by three entrances at three direction except west through .. A part of adjacent shrine has been collaped partially.. Main temple is accompanied by two adjacent shrines that can be assigned to Murtinarayan and Chandreshwari. Distinct kirtimukhs ( demon faces) are carved all over the temple. Roof of entire main shrine has captivating encarneted design with beautiful inverted dome shapes that makes it worthwhile. Most developed forms of similar domes are more commonly found in Hoysala temples. A huge Pushkarni with huge flight of steps exist on west of main shrine.
