Kaginele also known as "Kaginelli" (Kannada: ಕಾಗಿನೆಲೆ) is a village in the Byadagi taluk of Haveri district in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is best known as the birthplace of Kanaka Dasa, a writer of religious poems and music, who also lived and wrote most of his works here. The "Keshava"(Krishna) temple is situated in Kaginele. Keshava was the family deity of Shri Kanaka Dasa. In August 2004, the Karnataka State Government decided to form the Kaginele Development Authority (KDA) to protect all the monuments and the documents related to Kanaka Dasa. Kaginele is the birthplace of Kanaka Dasa, also known as Kanakada, who is now venerated as a saint of the Kuruba Gowda community. Besides poems and songs, he wrote about philosophy and social issues, and worked as a social reformer in the village. The Keshava is a Krishna temple in the village dedicated to the family god of the Kanaka Dasa. The Keshava temple has a statue of Kanaka Dasa. In 2004, the Karnataka state government decided to protect all his work and monuments. Hence, the Kaginele Kanaka Guru Peetha (temple) was formed. The architecture is similar to almost all temples in the state of Karnataka with magnificently sculpted figures and idols.[1]
Kaginele has accommodation facilities for families, people and foreigners. Visitors to Kaginele Guru Peeta can learn about Saint Kanakadas's history, read devotional poems, hear devotional songs, and engage in other spiritual studies. Shri. Beerrendra Keshava Tarakananda Puri Swamy was the first guru to start developing this Kaginele Shri, giving spiritual and devotional lessons after studying Kanakadas's history.
Shri. Beerendra Swamiji organized a function in 2005, where people from all over Karnataka were able to share in his vision of developing Kaginele as a Maha Samstana. The result of this function resulted in the Shri. Kanakadas Kaginele Kshetra spiritual and devotional center plus an education institute for poor...
