On a sunny Sunday morning, my friends and I embarked on a thrilling trekking adventure to Kunagalu Betta in Ramnagara, Karnataka. Just a short 1.5-hour drive from Bengaluru, we took the scenic Nice Road and enjoyed a delicious breakfast en route. Excitement filled the air as we anticipated the breathtaking views awaiting us at the top of the hill.

What made Kunagalu Betta even more enticing was the fact that it was not overcrowded. Unlike some popular trekking destinations, this hidden gem provided us with the opportunity to enjoy nature's beauty in a peaceful and serene setting. It was the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Upon reaching our destination, we parked our vehicles near a magnificent Lord Ganesh idol, which served as a spiritual symbol of protection and blessings for our journey. As we crossed the quaint village, our trek began, and the path was relatively easy, suitable for families, including children.

The trek offered us picturesque views at every turn. Lush greenery surrounded us, and the chirping of birds added a delightful melody to the experience. We couldn't resist capturing these magical moments with our cameras, as the trail was adorned with numerous spots that begged to be immortalized in photographs.

As we ascended, the panoramic vistas became even more awe-inspiring. The hill provided an excellent vantage point to admire the sprawling landscape below. The sight of distant hills, meandering rivers, and patches of dense forests was truly enchanting. We felt as if we had escaped into a different world, far away from the stresses of everyday life.

Reaching the summit, we were greeted with a sense of accomplishment and a feeling of oneness with nature. The fresh mountain air filled our lungs, rejuvenating our spirits. We found a cozy spot to sit and soak in the beauty that surrounded us. It was the perfect opportunity to take a break, enjoy some snacks, and bond with our fellow trekkers.

The descent was as enjoyable as the climb, as we retraced our steps, cherishing the memories we had created along the way. The trekking trail was well-maintained, ensuring our safety and ease of navigation.

In conclusion, our Sunday trekking experience to Kunagalu Betta in Ramnagara was an absolute delight. It provided us with a refreshing escape from the city, with its proximity to Bengaluru making it a convenient choice for a day trip. The uncrowded nature of the trek allowed us to immerse ourselves fully in the serenity and beauty of the surroundings. From the breathtaking views at the top to the wonderful spots for photography, it was an experience we will treasure forever. We returned home with a sense of fulfillment, grateful for the memories and the bond we shared during this...

The trek is classified as an easy / beginners trek. In general I agree having said this here is my view of the trek

  1. the initial climb from the base of the village to the starting point is about a kilometre. If you have a 2 wheeler you can park higher up. If you have a car there is no real parking space but we did see 2-3 cars parked in a haphazard way with stones on the upward sloping road. I will recommend parking the car down and walking up. I) after the initial climb you cross a ganesha statue , you can also take some good pics of the “puppy faced” rock.
  2. you walk through some shrubs and some stone steps for about 500 metres to reach a Nandi statue which can be a good resting spot.
  3. there is a cool cave climb one section is quite dark but is fun to climb and a little challenging if if you have fear of heights.
  4. the final climb is a bit of a steep climb to reach the temple on top.

This may not be very safe if it’s raining or early mornings unless you are experienced in trekking

Overall Time taken end to end about 2.5 hours.

Other useful info

  1. recommend you carry plenty of water atleast 1 litre per person and snacks as there is nothing available there .
  2. lack of restrooms maybe a concern area for ladies as there are none anywhere.
  3. if you want a not cheap but good food option after the trek I recommend the Rasta cafe as it’s a 25 minute drive from...

Try to reach by 6:15 or the normal sunrise time. Sunrise is really good from the top. This was a great bike ride with a mix of smooth roads and off-road trails. The last 15 minutes of the ride through the village were particularly peaceful, offering a scenic and refreshing experience. There are two main parking spots—one at the end of the concrete road, from where you can begin a 30-minute hike, and another further up the trail if you’re comfortable with moderate off-roading.

If you’re an experienced rider, taking the bike up can be a fun challenge, but it’s not recommended during the rainy season. The steep slope makes off-roading tricky, and descending can be even more difficult when the ground is wet and slippery.

After parking, you’ll reach a Nandi statue, marking the start of the cave trail. From here, it’s a short but adventurous 10-minute hike to the top. The caves add an exciting element to the trek, making it feel like a hidden gem. The best part? No tickets are needed, making it a budget-friendly outdoor activity. However, if it rains, the trail can become quite slippery, so good grip shoes are recommended. Overall, it’s a great spot for a short adventure with stunning views...
