This is one of the most famous waterfalls in Karnataka. This is a easy to reach place, however, if you rely on the Google Maps, you may get disappointed, at least for Airtel customers (saw a reliance tower). I was not directed about the navigation 2 to 3 kms prior to the waterfalls, though it didn't do me any bad, however, for the people from other states may have to ask and move in right directions. For travellers from Mysuru, it is best to travel early morning and have a stop or two and then reach at 9 am. It is said that they open at 9 am in the morning and close at 5 pm. Enroute, you may get a few good hotels like Adigas and Ambari restaurants. They're good and hygienic hotels. Mysuru travellers can start from Mysuru Hunsur Piriyapatna Kushalnagara Somwarapet and then take a diversion towards Yedur. Best time to leave Mysuru would be 5.30 and get there by 9 am. The road till Somawarapet is really nice and one can touch good/decent speeds here. After entering Yedur please be careful and don't make mistake of speeding up. I would prefer to have relatively lower speed to encounter on-coming cars. The roads are narrow and broken. Once you near the gate you shall be giving a fee of 50/- INR (0.67 USD - as on 02-Oct-2021). Once you park the vehicle, you get a view of the hills and the falls. You can step down and have fun as you reach down the foot hill. Please bear in mind to carry some water or energy drink. The stairs aren't made for elder ones and HD people. My suggestion would be to have sports or trekking shoes along with some water. On the way down one can have a lot of fun and photo sessions (if you want to!). The best part is to get to the foot of waterfalls and enjoy. While climbing back, there are certain boulders where one can stop-by for photo shoot. A few policemen are stationed here for the safety and if you're a couple or a lone traveller then you don't need to worry about the safety. You can also plan for some other places the day you visit this place, this is not only one-stop place. Once you savor the nature and falls, there isn't anything much to look for. And it is better to carry some food and water to this place because there wasn't any good place for the food stop. After you reach 2 to 3 kms you may find a canteen. (this information is on 2nd October 2021, Saturday) The falls seemed good, I guess we should have come on the rainy season. The day we visited this place was really hot and humid. While returning, you can make a quick pit stop near Somawarpete for delicious bakery items or coke or chocolates. Totally the views and travel made us enjoy. At least our co passengers enjoyed a lot than the driver. Note: The roads nearing falls or after Somwarapete is really curvy, narrow and also some roads works are in picture, mind that and drive...

Mallalli Falls is close to Somwarpet town and is formed by the Kumaradhara river.

Getting There About 55kms from Madikeri which could take anything from 1.5 to 2 hours so be prepared for a longish drive. The road is good for the most part, quite scenic and the way to the falls is marked by small signboards. You can also follow the signboards to Ayatana Resort which is about 2kms away from Mallalli.

Mobile network is sketchy enroute so if you're mapping it, it's better to download and use an offline map just to be safe.

Tariffs Cars and jeeps are charged Rs. 60.

Best Time to Visit The falls are best viewed in the monsoon or soon after. Weekdays are less crowded compared to weekends. We went on a Wednesday morning and there were less than 20 people around.

The Pathway The path to the edge of the falls consists of around 600 concrete steps. Older folks, people with disabilities and young kids may find it difficult. While the walk down is quite easy, the strain will be felt on the way back up. Some of the steps are steep and the ones closer to the falls are routinely doused with water from the falls and tend to be a little slippery.

Recommended Attire Sporty footwear with good grip is recommended. Also, if you go right up to the end of the footpath next to the falls, you will be drenched with the spray from the falls. So it's best to wear a jacket or raincoat if you don't fancy getting drenched.

Amenities There are a few shops in the parking area selling snacks and drinks. There is a view of the falls from this area itself if you don't fancy the walk down. Public toilets are available.

Request to Visitors & Tourists There's just one bin on the way down for trash. Please use it for your trash or take your trash back with you. People have littered the pathway with bottles and packets which is pretty disgusting.

There are barricades all the way down. Please respect the rules and stay on the path. Some people slip past the barricades - a few such people have fallen from the rocks and died.

Overall A decent place for a day out if you are in the Somwarpet area. A bit out of the...

A nature lover’s paradise, mallalli falls is one of the coorg’s best natural phenomenon. Covered with lush green mountains, this waterfall will take your breath away. Situated not that far from somwarpet, the drive to malalli is truly a sore to the viewer’s eyes. They say “nature plays it’s wonders in various ways”, when you soak in the beauty of this place, you’ll see this saying stands true. The road is covered from hills on both the sides. The road is really good for only some 2kms stretch has a lot of potholes. When driving, do slow down, pull down your windows and let the cool breeze from the mountains great you. When you reach there, remember, you’ll have to sacrifice the comfort of your legs for the view. No vehicles can reach the waterfall as its covered by mountains on both the sides. You’d have to park up and start walking down the stairs built to reach the waterfall. The trek isn’t going to be easy as it takes up a lot of stairs to reach down to the waterfall. The whole trek going down is fun, crazy and tiring [not much], but when you reach down, it’s so beautiful that you will easily forget all your tiredness. Luckily if you go on a good, summer season, you’ll be lucky enough to play in water as the waterfall won’t be at its peak water levels. But if you plan on going in rains, the waterfall will be bursting with water and unfortunately you won’t be able to reach close to the water. If anyone is reading this, please exercise caution both while driving to this place and near the waterfall. The whole surface where water falls is rocky and if you miss-step, it could become troublesome. Overall, the place is worth visiting to and spending quality time alongside nature and if unlucky with tons of tourists too. Remind you, going down is easy but coming up, is going to be excruciating and way too tiring when coming back up. If you are a person who feels may get tired too fast, do carry some supplements like water. It’ll help a lot. I hope you enjoy the place. And,...
