The path leading up to the peak is adorned with lush greenery and wildflowers. Refreshing Climate: The weather is cool and breezy, even during summers. Chikkamagaluru was once my go-to destination for peaceful getaways – a place I proudly recommended to hundreds of friends and colleagues over the years. However, the recent experiences have been deeply disappointing and concerning, especially for out-of-state tourists. Here are the key issues I observed:

Harassment by Traffic and Local Police Out-of-state vehicles, particularly private ones, are being unfairly targeted by traffic and local police officials under the pretext of "checking." This seems more like a blatant attempt to extract money than ensuring law and order. Such selective targeting creates a hostile atmosphere and leaves a bad impression on genuine tourists.

Unjustified Forest Entry Fee Hike and Booking Restrictions The forest entry fee has been hiked drastically from ₹20 to ₹100, with an online-only booking system in place. While digitization is welcome, the lack of awareness and poor communication to tourists results in many being denied entry or forced to look for alternative (and often expensive) solutions. What's worse – these restrictions seem to conveniently support local yellow board (commercial) vehicles, allowing them to bypass limitations while private visitors suffer.

Unfair Restrictions at Mullayanagiri Peak Visitors in private vehicles are often stopped or restricted from going all the way to Mullayanagiri peak, again under the guise of safety or traffic control – yet local yellow board vehicles are allowed freely. This double standard is unacceptable and makes it clear that tourism here is being commercialized to favor certain interests.

Conclusion:

It’s disheartening to see such a beautiful destination turning into a money-making scheme through over-regulation, selective enforcement, and exploitation of unaware tourists. Unless the authorities act swiftly and transparently to address these issues, I – and many others – will have no choice but to boycott Chikkamagaluru and direct our support to more tourist-friendly...

Mullayanagiri | Seethalayanagiri Way to heaven!!! This is a beautiful mountain range of the Western Ghats. We mainly went to see Neelakurinji which had bloomed in this range during the 2022 season. There are 2 deviations from Kaimara check post on the hill station - one takes you to Mullayanagiri and Seethalayanagiri and the other takes you to the BB hills. First comes Seethalayangiri and then the Mullayanagiri. So, start from the last. Go to Mullayanagiri first. Mullayanagiri is the highest peak in Karnataka. The roads are narrow but the way as such and the overlooking valley is picturesque. Higher the altitude, the higher the beauty. Words just can't explain it. You have to experience it! There is a place to park your car. We went on weekends and during Neelakurinji season it was overcrowded and few people had left their cars parked on the narrow roads themselves thus causing extreme deadlock traffic. Anyways, once you park the car, you will find a way to climb up around 500+ steps to reach the summit. It will make you feel tiresome though. Once you reach the summit you will feel as if you are at the top of the world! The 360-degree views are beautiful. There is a temple at the top of the summit. Mullayanagiri was also covered with Neelakurinji flowers which added more aesthetic to this range. Take the vehicle towards Seethalayanagiri. This is also peak and is adjacent to Mullayanagiri. Even here the peak was full of Neelakurinji flowers. There is a temple here. The best part of the journey is enjoying the scenic road trip! The Western Ghats section is very scenic and beautiful. Once done, return back to Kaimara and from here you either exit the hill station or take a turn to go to Baba Budan giri (BB Hills) | Chandradrona Parvatha | Dattatray Peeta.
