Naamada Chilume is a unique natural spring located near Devarayanadurga, about 10 km from Tumkur and 65 km from Bangalore, Karnataka. It is a popular tourist spot due to its mythological connection to Lord Rama, as well as its serene natural beauty.

Legend Behind Naamada Chilume

According to Hindu mythology, during his exile, Lord Rama was passing through this region and wanted to apply Tilaka (Naamam) on his forehead.

Unable to find water nearby, he pierced the rock with his arrow, and a small spring of water emerged.

This spot was then named Naamada Chilume, meaning "Spring of the Naamam (Tilak)" in Kannada.

The spring still exists today, and water continuously flows from a small hole in the rock.

Wonderful place with rich historical background. The place is located at 15km from city of Tumkur and is an half an hour drive amidst the Devarayana durga state forest. The place is infamous due to the belief that lord Rama during his vanavaasa , came here along with his wife Sita and brother lakshmana. During his routine chorus, he wanted to make a naama (tilak) for which he needed some water. When he couldn't find a source of water, he used his baana(arrow) to get a source of water by shooting it towards bande(stone or a monolith) to get a spring . Till date the spring produces water and hundreds of visitors come here to witness the rich spectacle. One can visit this place on any day of the week after 9am to 5pm in the evening. There is entry ticket for this place. Also if you plan to visit this place, you can hangout other garden that are available near this place which are having nursery of ayurvedic plant species. One can plan for DD hills and namada chilume on a weekend with family for quality time. Best time to visit June - Feb , you can enjoy lush forest cover. Namada Chilume (pronounced naamada chilume' in Kannada) is a natural spring situated by Devarayanadurga, near Tumkur The spring issues from the surface of the rock. It is believed that Rama, along with Sita and Lakshmana, stayed here during their exile in the forest. Rama searched for water to apply tilaka to his forehead. When he could not find any water, he shot an arrow at the rock. The arrow penetrated the rock, made a hole, and the water came out. Henceforth, this place was called Namada Chilume, meaning "Spring of Tilak".

Need to walk for about 500 Meters from entrance to reach this place..water keeps flowing throughout the year through the small hole.. we visited the place during summer.. water was cool and still flowing..There is a entry fee of 20₹ for adults and 10₹ for children,pls carry cash due to network issues payment aps won't work..Deer park is well maintained.can sit and relax with children.
