Read moreI gone to this place twice in 2 years. It is a rainy season falls. It is located in Agumbe. One has to trek for 3 km inside the deep rain forest of Agumbe to reach this place. From the Agumbe Ghat check point, there is a trekking path. One must go prepared to face leaches. Always go with group of at least 5-8 people as there is a chance to lost in the forest. Trekking path of 3 Km is beautiful and one who loves nature and loves hard core trekking, this path is like heaven. No vehicles can go through this path. When you are nearing the falls, you can hear the roaring sound and there are steps to go near falls. When the path ends, you can see the amazingly beautiful 'Onake Abbi Falls'. This falls is around 450-600 feet high. There are two steps before water reaches ground. Be very careful because the place is very dangerous and something goes wrong, there are no one to help you. You can see amazing view of karavali and hills adjacent to. You can play in water but never go to the tip of the falls because the place is very slippery.
Go there, enjoy, experience raw...

The "process" was horrible. No signs, no phone numbers, no leads on official tourism websites on how to legally do the trek. We wasted an hour looking for a guide, talking to the forest officer and looking for phone numbers for leads. The google number is someone's personal number who will not help out. We went to the forest official's house, he did not give us permits and told us to take a local. We ended up picking a nice albeit very drunk local to guide us. After paying him 1500, they kept calling and harassing us to pay more for permit after we had returned to our homes. I hope your experience is more streamlined than ours.
We started at 9:50am, end of February, at the foot of the falls, reached at about 12:15. Swam in the icy water(water is not deep, quite safe if you know to swim, max depth of 6 feet. Giant gusts of wind kept blowing droplets from the high stream all over the surrounding area. We ate our packed lunch, basked in the sun to dry and hiked...
