A historic, beautiful and calm location. Ideal for camping in evening.
The Church was built by French Missionaries in 1860 on the banks of Hemavathy river. In 1960 Dam along with reservoir was constructed which led to the abandonment of church . Also people in the near village had to relocate as well. So people left but this church was left behind and from that day it is standing still showing that beauty exists in the ruined condition as well.
Interesting thing is that this church remains submerged in the reservoir water during monsoon/rainy season and afterwards when the water level recedes it comes out in all the elegance. When i was there it was completely out of water as you can see in the picture above. Clouds were above the church ,cool breeze was flowing .So it was like ideal condition to admire the beauty of church and surrounding

If you think ruins cannot be beautiful, do visit this place. This was once a church, which only has a few remains left, and it's located in such a way, that the shallow waters of the reservoir surround it.
There's nothing much around this place, but it's definitely a good place to stop by, and grab a few pics if you are going by.
This place is closer to Hassan and if you are traveling from Chikmagalur to Bangalore, or Coorg to Chikmagalur, then you can definitely halt by and check this out.
It's a great place for photoshoots and if the weather is good, the place is very scenic.
The roads connecting this church from the highway was not too good, they were patched and dusty roads. It would be good if people don't litter this place, spend some peaceful time and continue with their journey.

This is a photogenic place on the backwaters of Hemavathi Dam reservoir. The church ruins look beautiful against the backdrop of water.
Location - 20 Kms from Hassan, detour if you are going to Saklespur and have an extra hour to spend. Follow google maps
Access - concrete roads from the main roads to the reservoir banks for the church view, during summer can go up to church
Facilities - None, no restrooms or any other, it’s a open place. A make-shift shop for lemon juice and water appears sometimes. A coffee shop at the main road in 600 meters
Views - the church half submerged in water during monsoons look beautiful like a boat, good place for photo shoots, during summer the dilapidated ruins of full church is visible. It’s an old French style Gothic church.
Can spend 15-20 minutes depending upon how much time one wants to spend/take pics.

The location of the place is really good. You cannot take your car till this place if you don't have good ground clearance (perhaps they have dug up a certain area to not allow cars to pass through). However, you can easily take your 2 wheeler till this place. We went on a Monday morning, so this was extremely secluded for us (2 of us went there). There were only 2 other guys who were already there taking photos. While the ruins look decent, it's nothing great. As usual we have trash strewn all across thanks to our wonderful and intelligent tourists, so that will throw you off as well. If you're visiting, go with a group of atleast 4 people. There are plenty of other places in Sakleshpur, so you can just see this place from the bridge on the road and continue.

It's a nice place to visit if you are nearby or visiting areas around. It is a remote location so don't expect any shops or other amenities in the near vicinity. You can easily spend 2-3 hrs looking around and appreciating the beauty of ruins/remains of this ancient structure. And can spend some time near the lake shore. It has some excellent silhouettes and will definitely be intriguing for the photographers as it provides a perfect backdrop for photoshoots. Also roads leading to this place are well maintained so shouldn't be a problem reaching there. Try to visit in the early morning or evening as sunsets and sunrises are definitely something you would love to watch.
Would have given 5 stars if it could be a little cleaner or maintained.

Shettihalli Church is located 2km from Shettihalli, Hassan, in Karnataka. Built in the 1860s by the French missionaries in India, the church is a magnificent structure of Gothic Architecture. After the construction of the Hemavati Dam and Reservoir in 1960 the church was Submerged under water due to the dam. It is also known as The Submerged Church or The Floating Church. Depending on the season, one of two sights will greet you. In summer, you will find the greyish-brown ruins of a Gothic-style Rosary Church in Shettihalli looming in front of you, a quiet-yet-massive shadow of its former French glory standing tall on dry land, surrounded by a handful of dry grass and shrubs, as the Hemavathi river silently snakes behind it.
