🌿 Shimoga Tiger-Lion Safari – Full Gen Z Review
Okay fam, let’s talk about the Shimoga Tiger-Lion Safari (Tyavarekoppa Safari) – honestly, it was a vibe. If you’re someone who loves nature but also wants that lil’ adrenaline rush of seeing wild animals up close, this spot is low-key perfect.
🐅 Safari Experience
The main attraction? Definitely the tigers and lions. The safari bus (yes, it’s caged, so chill 😂) takes you through the park, and the moment a tiger or lion casually strolls near the bus – bruhhh, chills. It feels surreal to see them in a semi-natural habitat instead of behind tiny zoo bars.
There’s also leopards, sloth bears, deer, and a bunch of birds. The bird section is actually super calming – like nature therapy after the big-cat drama.
⏰ Best Time to Visit
Pull up in the morning (10 AM – 12 PM or 3PM to 5PM) if you actually wanna see animals moving around instead of them napping in the shade like lazy roommates.
November to February = peak season. Cooler weather, better pics, and more active animals.
Summer afternoons? Hard pass. Both you and the animals will just be melting.
🛠️ Facilities & Chill Points
Tickets are mad affordable. Entry fee is like a couple of snacks’ worth, and the safari ride doesn’t break your wallet either. Perfect for college students or squad hangouts.
There’s a food corner for tea, snacks, and basics – don’t expect fancy café vibes, but it gets the job done.
Parking is easy, so no stressing about where to leave your car/bike.
If you’re with fam, kids are gonna love it – they even have a small play area.
Surrounded by greenery, so your lungs get a break from city pollution.
📸 Content Creator POV
If you’re into photography or just wanna flex on the ‘Gram, this place is solid. The animals look majestic, the greenery gives forest-core aesthetics, and if you catch golden hour, your reels will be 🔥. Just remember: charge your phone/camera fully, because wild animals don’t wait for you to find your charger.
💡 Pro Tips for the Safari
Hit it early morning = more animal action.
Rock comfy outfits & sneakers – you’ll walk around a bit.
Carry water, because hydration everything.
If you’re going in summer, sunscreen is your bestie.
🎯 Final Take
The Shimoga Tiger-Lion Safari is not like some wild African savannah, but for Karnataka, it’s a solid 9/10 experience. Affordable, chill, and packed with wild energy. Whether you’re with friends, family, or even solo, it’s a refreshing break from city life.
If you’re in or near Shimoga, don’t even think twice – just go. You’ll leave with cool memories, dope pics, and maybe a new favorite spot...

Located amidst the lush greenery of Karnataka's Malnad region, the Shivamogga Zoo & Safari, also known as Tyavarekoppa Lion and Tiger Safari, offers a perfect blend of wildlife conservation, education, and eco-tourism. Situated around 10 km from Shivamogga city, it is one of the best-managed mini zoos in Karnataka.
The facility features both a small zoo and an open safari, which allows visitors to experience wild animals in a semi-natural habitat. The highlight of the visit is the lion and tiger safari, where tourists are taken in a caged bus into large enclosures. Spotting majestic tigers and lions up close, roaming freely, is thrilling and memorable. Unlike conventional zoos where animals are confined to small cages, here they appear more active and in better condition.
The zoo section houses various species including leopards, bears, deer, crocodiles, peacocks, and several bird species. The enclosures are spacious and well-maintained. Information boards are placed near each enclosure, making it educational for children and wildlife enthusiasts.
The surroundings are clean, and basic amenities like restrooms, drinking water, and a small cafeteria are available. The entry fees are nominal, and the safari charges are reasonable.
Overall, Shivamogga Zoo & Safari offers a refreshing and informative day out for families, students, and tourists. It's an ideal spot for anyone wanting to experience wildlife responsibly while enjoying the beauty of nature. A visit here not only entertains but also raises awareness about wildlife...
Read moreVery interesting to watch the Lion in the wild. There where many healthy lions roaming around. Try to reach latest by 9Am. There was a very long line to book the Safari on the Sunday we went. The Zoo is also good and please don't miss it. We found some interesting birds there. There is a basic canteen to have some snacks and to have some soft drinks. There is a kids park there. The whole place was decently maintained with basic amenities. The Driver on our Safari bus was very cooperative and stoped in the right spots to let us click pictures. We travelled all the way from Chickmagalur to Shimoga to enjoy the safari. After reaching there we were told that safari is closed because of construction work. Though before starting from Chickmagalur we visited the site on internet where bno such information was given. The we planned to visit atleast the zoo. After coming to ticket counter we were told that tickets available only at the car park so again we went upto cark park, purchased the tickets from a person who was sitting on a chair benmeath a tree. Zoo was small and the animals were kept in pathetic conditions in the scorching heat. Felt very pitty on them. We wasted our time, energy and money visiting this place. Very poorly organised. Hope oraganiser will take a note of it that tourists come from abroad also and everyones time is precious. ASt least they should keep the tourists informed on the social net work and their...
