'Mahalasa' is another name for Lord Vishnu in the form of his incarnation as the enchantress 'Mohini'. Several temples dedicated to this avatar of Lord Vishnu can be found along the west coasts of Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka and Kerala amongst other places. This temple located on Car Street in Kumta is believed to be more than four hundred years old.
