Sri Chitrapur Math — Attraction in Karnataka

Shri Chitrapur Math is the central Math (community temple) for the Chitrapur Saraswat Brahmin sect. This Math is located at Shirali in the Bhatkal Taluk in North Kanara district of Karnataka and has been there since 1757. The other Maths of this community are located in Gokarna, Karla, Mangalore and Mallapur. The chief deity worshipped in this Math is Shri Bhavanishankar who is a form of Shiva. The other 6 sanctorums of the temple are of the Samadhis of the previous GuruSwami's of the community. Daily Puja is carried out at the shrine of Bhavanishankar as well as the other Swamijis.

This is a beautiful Mutt belonging to the Chitrapur Saraswat Community. It is dedicated to the community's dieties, Lord Anantheshwar and Devi Durga Parmeshwari, besides having the samadhis of their gurus, over the past decades. The current guru, H H Sadyojatashram Swamiji is also based here. The Mutt has a very serene atmosphere and the surroundings are very clean and exude a holy aura. Right next to this Mutt is the H H Parjnanashram Vaastu Sangrahalaya, a museum, which houses rare and ancient artifacts. It is a huge structure which also houses the massive Rath used during Utsavs. Each artifact is very well preserved, immaculately displayed and presented and explained in detail. We belong to Shri Chitrapur Math. It is our holy place cum home. If you go there one feel like going his own house. Our swamiji stays there. HE is very learned and has done lot of sadhana. He guides us in all spheres of our life and helps us attaining spirituality. He is spiritual head and welcomes all with love and affection.
