Once we checked in JSS guest house, we had our lunch, then a short nap. Even though we were very tired and exhausted after the long drive, we decided we will visit the temple the same day evening itself.
Took the car and went to the temple.
The guest house people told us / warned us that the temple would be crowded since it was Karthigai Somavaram. Still we decided we will take our chances to have our darshan.
Once we reached the temple, crowd was quiet big, the crowd was waiting outside for the Golden Chariot event. We went looking around for special entrance tickets if any was available. Couldn't find anything like that.
We saw the dharma dharisanam / free entry Que was open and free. we literally went through the closed encounters in no time and we were in front of the Lord Mahadeshwara in no time.
Felt lucky and happy to have darshan like this. As we recited the Sivapuranam, we observed that the Lord was not in Lingam format, it was a huge face. Wonderful darshan. Finished reciting sivapuranam and came out of the temple.
Not sure there is Ambal sannadhi in this temple, because we didn't find any.
If my geography is correct, then i think it is a West facing temple, with the Lord facing west, Rajagopuram facing west. Didnt see any kodimaram, (not sure they have that type of architecture in karnataka).
Just like other temples, here also they have barred people from sitting inside the temple. Basically you have darshan and then come out of the temple complex and then sit outside. Dance outside, sing outside etc etc.
Outside it was full of festive atmosphere. Lot of crowd, people singing about the lord in Cine song style / format. Everywhere we saw the local people dancing to beautiful handheld drum music. It was something beautiful for us to see all this. We enjoyed it a lot, to see people so happy, dancing, laughing etc.
As the sun set and darkness allround, they switched on the lights, decoration lights on the temple tower etc, and it was a beautiful sight to see that.
We also stayed back and saw the Pulling of Golden Chariot of the Lord. It was an amazing site to see that also.
One thing we couldn't understand was, as to why people were throwing so many coins at the Golden chariot.
Literally amazing darshan, amazing and wonderful atmosphere with people singing, dancing, laughing, etc etc
We thought we would be able to have darshan at different times of the day, morning afternoon and night, but somehow lord's will was different, we had only one darshan in the evening on the day we went.
Would be nice to see the temple in day time sun light falling on the gopuram etc.
Definitely worth a visit atleast once in your lifetime.
This place comes under both Spiritual Tourism (for believers in Sanathana Dharma) and Eco-tourism(for those who are addicted to greenery of mother earth and associated beautiful flora and fauna). The temple outside place is not very clean. But inside you will experience the eternal devine vibrations of Saint Mahadeshwara. The place has a great great history and one can fetch through net. When you interact with people and go through literature and folk songs you will feel the devinity at its best from heart to heart. The laddu available at the counter for a very reasonable price is wonderful. You can't get such a tasty laddu anywhere commercially. It is devine. The food served for the devotees is very simple and tasty. You can feel the god in this devine servings. I request all devotees to make the hills more green by putting seeds of large trees such as Jack fruit, Palmyra, Teakwood, Mango tree, Rose wood, Banyan, Christmas tree, Casuarina tree etc.,. Larger trees being more rains. And more rains bring more greens. Green colour of nature cools down the eyes and brain. So watch the green Woods at Male Mahadeshwara Betta (Hills) and cool yourself. Save money spending on doctor. With intake of green wavelengths from green vegetation and Vitamin D from the Sun God you will have sound sleep, less of body pain, cool brain and above all devine vibrations clinsing your body and brain wastes generated over time. Each visit will purify you in totality. You can drop from any part of th world to BENGALURU by air, rail, road. From Bengaluru you have to depend only on road. Use your vehicle or private taxi or public conveyance (KSRTC buses). Bus journey is good. Good buses and the road now is excellent. To get the full benefits of nature stay at MM Hills for few days. Get your quota of fresh air, green vibrations, devine doses and be a fit person till the next visit. Nature never asks for a fees what it gives to you. Protect Nature, Protect hills, greens and it's bio diversity. In this process you get treated free of cost. Thus the saved money on heath can go into charity. MM hills is one such Mother Earth's Clinic where you can rejuvenate yourself. So come enjoy. Good luck.
We visited Male Mahadeshwara Hills Temple during Shivratri, and it was a wonderful and spiritually powerful experience. The temple is located on the Karnataka–Tamil Nadu border, surrounded by scenic hills and a strong devotional atmosphere. It truly feels proud to be present there during such a grand festival. The MM Hills Development Authority has created excellent infrastructure to manage the huge crowd during major festivals like Shivratri and Bheemana Amavasya. Crowd control, movement planning, and basic facilities are well organized considering the scale of devotees visiting. One of the most impressive arrangements is the Dasoha Bhavan (food distribution center). The system is well planned: The food queue for Anna Sambar Prasadam goes up to 7 rounds, covering nearly 1 km due to the massive crowd. Senior citizens, children, and those unable to walk long distances are allowed to eat Rice Bath and Curd Rice in the first round itself. This structured system is very practical and thoughtful, especially during peak festivals like Shivratri and Bheemana Amavasya when lakhs of devotees gather. The Anthara Gange Kalyani, the sacred bathing place, is well maintained and adds spiritual value to the visit. The temple premises overall are impressive and devotional. Toilet and bathroom facilities are available and structurally good, but cleaning and maintenance need improvement, especially during peak festival days. Apart from major festivals, daily poojas and food distribution are conducted regularly. There is a huge crowd during Shivratri and Bheemana Amavasya, while on monthly Amavasya pooja days, the crowd is moderate and manageable. Nearby Attractions If you are visiting MM Hills, you can also explore nearby places in Tamil Nadu such as: Mettur Dam – A scenic dam with beautiful surroundings. Hogenakkal Falls – Famous waterfalls known as the “Niagara of India.” Overall, Male Mahadeshwara Hills Temple is a must-recommend spiritual destination. The devotion, large-scale organization during festivals, sacred bath at Anthara Gange, and the grand festive atmosphere make it a memorable and fulfilling pilgrimage experience.
