Tunga Bridge — Attraction in Karnataka

Its so beautiful , connects Thirthahalli and Kuruvalli. National high way passes on this. Nice place to take pictures. Very small bridge , but very attractive. Due to surrounded greenery and Tunga river. On the way to bridge from Koppa circle, u will see Vagadevi School, Petrole bunk, Gayatri Mandir, IB guest house place. And also u can find Mangalya Mandhir. Best place to take pictures. From main bus-stand , its hardly 5minutes distance place if go by any mode of transport. In the month of December end or January beginning, the bridge will be decorated beautifully for Yella Amawase Festival. On those days , it will be the center of attraction with Theppoastava. Thousands of people will gather to see Theppoastava in Yellu Amavase Festival. Due to this bridge near to festival programme , people get very attractive towards festival. So no body wants to miss the Theppoastava.

By passing bridge you can go to Kuruvalli, Melige , Kattehaklu, Devangi, Koppa. For going Famous poet house Kuppali , u need to cross this bridge. From the bridge Kuppali is around 15 kilometres foraway .

Tunga Bridge is the one of the oldest bridges constructed across the Tunga River.This bridge is over 100 years old and it was designed by, and built under supervision of, Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya. The bridge connects the area Kuruvalli with Thirthahalli. Tunga Bridge is also called Jayachamarajendra Bridge. It is believed by the localities that Lord Parashurama tried to wash his axe off the blood stain that were left on his axe after killing his mother by dipping it in various river, but he was unable to remove the stain. Legend has it that he could wash the stain off by washing the axe in the Tunga river. Therefore people believe that taking a dip in the holy river removes all the past sins .The Tunga Bridge draws many visitors, especially on weekends to see the uniqueness...

This bridge was built during 1940-1941 of short period in the ruling of Sri.Jayachamarajendra odeyer. The bridge is of 600 feet length. 1 span of 165 ft. 3 spans of 25 ft. and 10 spans of 39 ft. The cost of bridge project is Rs.2.05 lakh. The design & construction work took by the Gannon Dunkerley company. It was the Sir M.V.'s period.
