Anayadikuthu Waterfalls – A Hidden Gem in Kerala’s Lush Greenery

Tucked away amidst the verdant forests of Idukki district in Kerala, Anayadikuthu Waterfalls is a breathtaking spectacle of nature that remains one of the region’s best-kept secrets. Located on the way to the famous Thommankuthu Waterfalls, Anayadikuthu is not just a stopover—it’s a destination in its own right that leaves you mesmerized with its raw beauty and serene atmosphere.

As you approach the falls, the gentle sound of cascading water growing louder through the canopy of trees is the first thing that stirs your senses. The moment the waterfall comes into view, it’s a scene straight out of a postcard. Towering trees surround the wide cascade of clear water that plunges gracefully onto the rocks below, creating a natural pool that sparkles in the sunlight. The place is incredibly photogenic—perfect for nature lovers, photographers, and video creators looking to capture Kerala’s magic.

What makes Anayadikuthu truly special is its pristine environment. Unlike more commercialized waterfalls, this one retains a sense of untouched beauty. The air is fresh, the trails are scenic, and the background is a symphony of chirping birds, rustling leaves, and gushing water. It’s the kind of place where you can lose track of time while soaking your feet in the cool waters or just sitting on a rock and letting nature do its healing work.

For those looking for a quiet picnic spot, Anayadikuthu delivers. The nearby forested area has plenty of shaded nooks perfect for families, friends, or solo travelers wanting to unwind in peace. The nearby Anayadikuthu bridge, where elephants were once known to cross (hence the name: ‘Aana’ = elephant), adds a touch of myth and local lore to the trip.

Accessibility is another plus. While tucked in nature, the waterfall is not too far from major roads, and local transport or private vehicles can take you quite close. Signboards and local guides make it easy to reach, especially if you’re on your way to or from Thommankuthu.

Visitors are advised to wear good walking shoes, carry water, and avoid littering to preserve the site’s natural charm. Best times to visit are right after the monsoon months, from July to October, when the waterfall is in full flow and the surrounding forest glows in different shades of green.

In conclusion, Anayadikuthu Waterfalls is a must-visit for anyone exploring Idukki or the surrounding regions of Kerala. It offers a perfect mix of scenic beauty, tranquility, and adventure. Whether you’re a traveler looking for peace, a couple seeking a romantic escape into nature, or a creator hoping to shoot captivating videos, Anayadikuthu won’t disappoint.

🌿 Rating: 5/5 Highlights: Natural beauty, peaceful vibes, photography/video spot, accessible yet serene. Tips: Wear non-slip shoes, visit during weekdays for less crowd, and respect nature by leaving no waste behind.

A true paradise tucked within Kerala’s...

Idukki is a place full of endless sights. In addition to popular destinations like Munnar, Meesapulimala, and the blooming Neelakurinji mountains, there are many hidden gems in Idukki that remain unknown to most. Anayadikuth Falls is one such spectacular sight.

Anayadikuthu Waterfalls is a beautiful waterfall that is a must-visit place on the list of “Places to Visit in Idukki”. Anayadikuthu is located near Thommankuthu Waterfalls in Thodupuzha.

These two waterfalls can be included in a one-day trip itinerary in Idukki. One of the waterfalls, Anayadikuthu, is also known as “Aanachadikkuthu.” The name originates from an incident where an elephant from a passing herd slipped into the falls and tragically drowned.

Even for non-swimmers, this is a safe place for families to enjoy bathing. Anayathikkhut Falls offers beautiful views from every angle, with the unique sight of a stone resembling a half-submerged elephant adding to its charm.

How to reach ? Anayadikuthu Waterfalls is located approximately 20 kilometers from Thodupuzha, in the Idukki district of Kerala. There is another waterfall nearby called Thommankuthu Waterfalls, which is famous and has an ecotourism center owned by the Government of Kerala.

On the way, you will not find any signboards for Anayadikuthu Waterfalls. Just follow the route to Thommankuthu Waterfalls. Anayadikuthu Waterfalls is located a few kilometers ahead of Thommankuthu Waterfalls. You may come across many junctions that can be confusing, so it’s advisable to seek help from the locals.

Please note that there are a couple of ways to reach this amazing waterfall. After inquiring with locals, we discovered a newly constructed road that led us through rubber plantations and a scenic valley, ultimately bringing us to the top portion of Anayadikuthu waterfall. #copied...

Its a beautiful and serene place that lies untouched and far away from the day-to-day commotions. Its better to reach there either at morning or evening as there's no direct straight route to get to the waterfalls than climbing the rock mountains. I don't know whether there is an alternate path to reach there, but if no, climbing the rock will be a hectic task if you are accompanied with people who have breathing issues but the view and experience is definitely worth the climb! So better prefer not to get there by noon, as it would be scorching heat and a task to climb upto the spot. When I visited there with my friends, we had one of our best memories. We visited in December, 2021 and it was not much crowded. Also, opting to visit their on weekdays could cut off the crowd and help you to enjoy your time more peacefully. The best part? - There is no entry fee!! The water level was also safe and as it was not rainy season it was not much slippery. But one need to carefull while walking through the rocks underneath the stream as chances are there that you'll slip. You could also avail the facility to change your clothes or use the washroom that is provided by some of the residents there, while going back for which you'll have to pay a small amount around 15-20 if I'm not wrong for a person. There is also a few home made meals counters available too nearby for the people who come by. Overall I had a great experience - Because we got to spend a great time, without being affected by any sorts of disturbances or ill treatment either from the fellow visiters or from the natives. Glad that people there minds their own business and let other people enjoy their...
