The Botanical Garden of the University of Calicut is one of the largest in Kerala. It houses a diverse collection of flora and fauna, serving as an ecological hub where plants are maintained for study and research. The garden's rich biodiversity includes natural vegetation, plantations, and a variety of plant taxa, including exotic, indigenous, and medicinal species. Additionally, it features natural wetlands, such as a pond and a small stream, which enhance its ecological significance. A notable attraction within the garden is its trekking path, which offers visitors an immersive experience akin to traveling through a forest. However, the botanical garden is generally not open to the public. It can only be visited with special permission from the Head of the Department of Botany, except during rare events such as the Shasthrayan exhibition, when it is open to visitors.

Beautiful garden. Established in 1971 in the lush green panoramic, undulating, lateritic hummocky land of the Calicut University Campus, the Calicut University Botanical Garden (CUBG), founded by Prof. (Dr.) B.K. Nayar, the then Head of the Department of Botany, has developed into an excellent centre of biodiversity and ex-situ conservation of tropical Indian flora and exotic species. The Garden, inaugurated in 1972 by Prof. R. E. Holttum, thethen Director, Singapore Botanical Garden. In 1985 the CUBE has achieved international status when it was recognized by the International Consortium of Botanic Garden and Centre for World Conservation Strategy.
