This peafowl Sanctuary is located in chulannur in Palakkad district of Kerala ,India . Probably the only one India of this kind . Best time to visit early morning or in the evening so that you can see lots of peacock around this place . Better to visit with maximum two people . More you make noise the chance of watching the peacock will be less . Avoid carrying plastic items to the sanctuary when you are visits the place . Carry enough water and small snacks with you for your conception while you traveling to this place , because it’s all about lots of walking inside the park and there is no restaurant or coffee shop near by the sanctuary . Entry is free for the public to visit the sanctuary.

Nice place - Plan to visit early morning - Wrong google location First things first, the Google location is not correct. I have requested an edit (May 2019), Not sure if and when it will get approved. Search for the butterfly park to get the actual location Well worth a visit. We could spot only one bird, but we were told that we could spot many more if we visit morning. Apart from the there is a medicinal garden and a good trekking. There is a dormitory for people to stay. I did not step inside that and hence I have no information on who good it is

Worth a visit, even if the heat and humidity are not conducive even for a short Trek. Otherwise, it is a well managed educational center for anyone interested in birds and nature. Lots of information. Cotton trousers, long sleeves, hiking poles and a water bottle recommended if you plan to Trek into the forest.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Chulanur Peafowl Sanctuary, and it was an experience that left me both relaxed and inspired. As Kerala's only dedicated peafowl sanctuary, it offers a unique opportunity to observe these majestic birds in their natural habitat.

Natural Beauty and Wildlife

Spanning approximately 500 hectares, the sanctuary is a haven for over 200 peafowls, making it a paradise for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. The best times to visit are early mornings and late afternoons when the peacocks are most active, often displaying their vibrant plumage in courtship dances. Besides peafowls, the sanctuary is home to various other bird species, including partridges, doves, and robins, as well as small mammals and reptiles .

Activities and Experiences

Visitors can engage in guided nature walks and trekking through the sanctuary's trails, offering an immersive experience amidst the dry deciduous forests and scrublands. The sounds of chirping birds and rustling leaves create a tranquil atmosphere, perfect for photography and relaxation .

Accessibility and Amenities

Located about 30 kilometers from Palakkad and 20 kilometers from Thrissur, the sanctuary is easily accessible by road. Entry is free, but visitors are required to report at the office before entering . The sanctuary is open from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM daily .

Tips for Visitors

Best Time to Visit: October to March offers pleasant weather and increased chances of wildlife sightings .

Group Size: It's advisable to visit in small groups to minimize noise, enhancing the likelihood of observing peafowls .

Preparation: Carry water, wear comfortable walking shoes, and avoid bringing plastic items to preserve the sanctuary's pristine environment.

The Chulanur Peafowl Sanctuary is a hidden gem that offers a peaceful retreat into nature. Whether you're a birdwatcher, photographer, or someone seeking tranquility away from city life, this sanctuary provides an enriching experience that connects you with Kerala's rich...
