Edayar Island is an unspoiled land in Thiruvananthapuram District of Kerala. It is in the truest sense a get away for holiday makers, peace seekers and tired nerves. Edayar lies near Thiruvallam, about 7 km from Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station, on the way to the international beach resort of Kovalam. The island is spread over 2 sq km in length and half-a-km in width. The tea stalls (reminiscent of rural Kerala), a temple, kavu and church are the main attractions. An ancient Parasurama temple, on the banks of the Karamana River, is nearby. Edayar Island can be reached by ferries. Alternatively one can also opt for a narrow iron bridge near Thiruvallam to walk into the island. Trivandrum International Airport is the nearest airport. Edayar Island is located  near Thiruvallam  in Thiruvananthapuram District of Kerala. This beautiful island is situated at about 7 kms from the city en route to the international beach resort of Kovalam, the Edayar island is inhabited by just under 500 people. No concrete buildings, and absolutely no blaring of horns of vehicles - just pure salubrious fresh air and silence. The tea stalls, reminiscent of rural Kerala, dots the island. The island, spread over two square kilometres in length and a width of half-a-kilometre, is complete with a temple, "kavu" and church. The festivals at these places of worship can also be witnessed by the tourist. For the spiritually bend, the ancient Parasurama temple situated on the bank of Karamana river at Thiruvallom can be an attraction. Edayar is just a five minute walk from Thiruvallom near the Trivandrum-Kovalam bypass. Visitors can either ferry to the island or can opt to use the narrow iron bridge near Thiruvallom to walk into the island. It is about 500 m off the NH Bypass  and 5.5 km off the National Highway 47.. The nearest Airport is Trivandrum International Airport and Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station is the nearest Railway Station.

This island is situated in Poonthura village in Trivandrum. In this place you get nice view of the sunset. And it's a peaceful place where you can spend time in the evening. This is one the place where sea and the river meets together thus makes the place so calm and beautiful.

This island is a serene escape nestled just a short distance from the city. It spans about two square kilometers and feels like stepping into a different world where city noise and traffic don’t reach you .

You can reach it either by a small ferry ride or by crossing a narrow iron bridge. Once you're there, you’ll find sandy patches, lush green areas, a traditional temple kavu, a church, and several simple tea stalls that serve local snacks .

The natural beauty is striking, especially during sunrise or sunset when the river and sea meet nearby, creating a peaceful backdrop . Birdwatchers will enjoy the variety of local fauna, and watching fishermen go about their daily routine adds a nice local touch .

There are no fancy restaurants or big shops here, but the simplicity contributes to its charm. Some visitors mention that maintenance could be better, and walking in may require a bit of effort depending on the access route .

A visit usually takes around two to three hours if you want to wander, sit by the water, sip tea, and enjoy the calm. It’s a refreshing break from city life and a mellow spot to reconnect with nature and...
