Haritha Bio Park is an eco-tourism destination located on the banks of the Periyar River in Panamkuzhy, near Perumbavoor in the Ernakulam district of Kerala. Established in 2015 and owned by Mr. T. R. Rajappan, this innovative park combines elements of nature, agriculture, and recreation to offer visitors a multifaceted experience.

Key Features and Attractions

Biodiversity and Animal Life: The park boasts a diverse collection of flora and fauna. Visitors can explore a wide variety of ornamental birds—including species such as African lovebirds, Italian Bantam, Japanese Onagadori, and even native ornamental chickens like the Kadaknath—as well as other animals. Additionally, there is a mini zoo area where children and families can enjoy up-close encounters with rabbits, ducks, and other small mammals.

Fish Breeding Unit: Haritha Bio Park features an MPEDA-approved ornamental fish breeding unit. The facility houses over a hundred varieties of ornamental fishes across numerous fish tanks and ponds, including some impressive species like the Alligator gar and the Arapaima, the latter being among the largest freshwater fish.

Flora and Botanical Attractions: Spread over an artificial forest area of about one acre, the park includes several fruit-bearing trees. Guests can find giant passion fruit, dragon fruit, mangosteen, pulasan, rambutan, jackfruit, mango, and guava trees. This botanical setting not only enhances the natural beauty of the park but also provides the opportunity to purchase fresh fruits and even plants directly from the site.

Recreational and Family-Friendly Amenities: Designed with family visitors in mind, Haritha Bio Park includes a children’s park complete with swings, slides, and other rides that keep the younger ones engaged. Additionally, there is a designated fishing area along the banks of the Periyar River for those who enjoy angling in a scenic environment.

Sustainable and Precision Farming Practices: The park integrates modern, hi-tech farming techniques such as precision agriculture. By utilizing satellite imagery to monitor and manage crop variability, the park demonstrates sustainable practices that promote efficient use of land and water. This initiative is part of a collaborative effort with the Kerala State Horticulture Mission and the Department of Agriculture to pioneer environmentally responsible...

A Promising Bio Park with Room for Improvement

I recently visited the Haritha bio Park, and my overall experience was a mix of awe and disappointment. The park undoubtedly holds great potential with its diverse range of flora and fauna, creating a captivating environment for visitors. However, there are certain areas where improvement is needed to fully live up to its promise.

One of the park's standout features is its impressive collection of plant and animal species. The biodiversity on display is a testament to the park's commitment to showcasing the wonders of the natural world. The educational value is undeniable, making it an excellent destination for families, students, and nature enthusiasts.

However, the park's potential is hindered by what appears to be a lack of proper maintenance. Some areas seemed neglected, with overgrown vegetation and worn-out facilities. It's crucial for a bio park to maintain a pristine environment not only for the well-being of the inhabitants but also for the enjoyment of visitors. Regular maintenance would enhance the overall experience and ensure that every corner of the park reflects its true potential.

One aspect that left me with mixed feelings was the entry fee for an unguided experience felt disproportionate. Visitors paying a premium should expect a certain level of guided assistance or additional amenities to justify the expense.

In conclusion, Haritha Bio Park has the potential to be a top-tier destination for nature lovers and those seeking to learn about biodiversity. With some adjustments, this bio park could truly become a gem in the world of...

Over all it’s pass time for kids and Co. Parents will love the time spent with their children here.
