Koorumala View Point, located in the lush countryside near Elanji in Ernakulam district, Kerala, is a remarkable hidden gem for anyone seeking stunning vistas, tranquility, and a genuine taste of Kerala’s hill country. Just 2km from Elanji and 9km from Piravom, this eco-tourism destination has quickly earned a reputation among nature lovers, photographers, and those seeking peaceful getaways.

Location and Access Nestled atop a moderately steep slope, Koorumala View Point is accessible via well-paved roads that wind through thick canopies of local forest, making the journey itself picturesque and enjoyable. Ample parking is available at the base of the hill, and visitors reach the summit either by walking the ramp or by trekking through short, scenic trails. Local transport options—such as buses from Kochi or Kottayam—connect Elanji easily, and autos or taxis quickly bring visitors the last kilometer to the viewpoint itself.

Signature Features Koorumala offers a panoramic 360-degree view across the rolling hills, valleys, and agricultural landscape of Ernakulam. A well-maintained watch tower at the peak provides an unparalleled vantage for absorbing the region’s natural beauty. On clear days, one can see the mosaic of paddy fields, rubber plantations, and forested ridges stretching into the distance. The location is celebrated for its calm and serene atmosphere—ideal for unwinding and taking in the sights and sounds of nature.

Best Time to Visit Early morning and late evening are highly recommended for visiting Koorumala, to enjoy the golden hues of sunrise and sunset. During these hours, the landscape is bathed in soft, glowing light and the vistas are at their most breathtaking. The gentle mist often seen drifting across the valleys adds to the area’s charm and photogenic appeal.

Activities and Attractions Photography and Birdwatching: This spot is a favorite for photographers aiming to capture Kerala’s unique hill scenery and for birdwatchers seeking local avian species among the trees and grasslands.

Picnics and Leisure: Families and groups of friends often bring picnics, enjoying the peaceful environment and spending hours in relaxation.

Trekking and Nature Walks: Several trails offer easy to moderate difficulty, allowing visitors to explore the flora and fauna in the surrounding area. The eco-tourism approach ensures that the site remains pristine and sustainable.

Social Gatherings: Local festivals and community programs occasionally take place here, highlighting the spot’s role in regional life.

Facilities and Hours The site generally operates from 6AM to 7PM, seven days a week. The watch tower, parking area, and walking paths are maintained under DTPC (District Tourism Promotion Council), ensuring safety and cleanliness. There are no major commercial amenities on the hill itself, so visitors should plan to bring water and snacks, though local food stalls in Elanji offer Kerala delicacies before or after the visit.

Nearby Attractions The journey to Koorumala can be combined with a visit to Areekkal Waterfalls and temples like Sri Nellikattu Bagavathi, which lie within 10km. The surrounding Elanji region is also known for its agricultural beauty and traditional Kerala village atmosphere, making the whole trip a rewarding experience for those interested in local culture and natural scenery.

Why Visit Koorumala View Point? Koorumala View Point represents the best of Kerala’s lesser-known hill stations—a destination where nature, culture, and tranquility meet. For travelers seeking a retreat from urban bustle or an inspiring location for photography and contemplation, it is a perfect escape. Its blend of accessible adventure, scenic panoramas, and community spirit make it ideal for anyone wanting to experience Kerala’s highland beauty in its...

It is 2 km from Elanji and 9 km From Piravom increasingly being visited by tourists who are on their way to Wagamon and Idukki..This area provides a bird’s eye view of an endless stretch of green land and low-lying areas.

Easily accessible through the narrow ghat road from Elanji, this hill station stands out for its sprawling grasslands where the families can enjoy a few quiet moments, away from the hustle and bustle of the city life. A perfect choice for those who wish to have a holiday off the beaten track and to explore the unseen and the unexplored beauty of the greenland around, Koorimala has been attracting a large number of domestic tourists during weekends.

Though the place is yet to be included in the tourism map of the district, the place can stand up to any other hill stations.

However, the steep hills also pose a threat to reckless visitors. There are a few deep slopes and one should be careful while...

Koorumala is a tourist spot located 2 km away from Elanji and 9 km away from Piravom in Ernakulam district of Kerala. It's a beautiful view point up a moderately steep slope. The location has a viewing tower which offers a beautiful panorama. The highlight though is the ride to the point. Flawless roads and through canopies of trees on both sides of the roads. You can also have a short off-roading experience if you are on bike. Koorumala is having good locations for capturing pictures. Best time to visit this place is morning and evening so that you can enjoy the beautiful scenery and watch the perfect sunrise and sunset. This place is yet to be in the tourist map of the district. You can spend some valuable time with your friends and family here. Those who are traveling from Ernakulam to Pala or wagamon can visit this place.

Koorumala View Point ⸻ Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) Nice View, But Needs Better Facilities Koorumala View Point offers a decent view of the surrounding hills and greenery. It’s a quiet spot, good for a short stop if you’re passing through or looking for a peaceful break. The top view is pleasant, especially during early mornings or just before sunset. However, the place lacks proper amenities — no restrooms, food stalls, or shaded seating. The road leading up is a bit rough and might be challenging for small vehicles. It has potential to be a great spot with a little more maintenance and development. Worth a quick visit, but not something to plan an entire day around. Very difficult to parking in hill side. Very dangerous. Be careful driving. Very smallest road to reach this place from Koothattukulam town.
