Great place for greenery lovers, a calm and quiet place were one can sit an relax for hours. One can reach kuruva islands through 1.KALPETTA-PANAMARAM- KURUVA/ 2.MANANTHAVADY- PAYYAMPALLY- KURUVA/ 3.SULTHAN BATHERY- PULPALLY- KURUVA/
Best time to visit is between November and June. Once monsoon arrives this place becomes inaccessible.. it's a riverine Delta formed by the bifurcation of the river kabani. And kabani is one of the 4 rivers in Kerala which flows eastwards.
The kuruva islands has 2 ENTRY POINTS. Paalvelicham entry point ( The one shown on Google maps)
Through Pākkom ( not shown on Google maps )
Pālvelicham side is managed by DTPC and has much better facility when opposed to the Pākkom side entry point. Parking is available on both sides and there is a marginal fee being collected for the same. But on any day it is a disappointment for travellers to drive a considerable distance away from highways to reach the kuruva islands ticket counters, just to learn that the tickets have been sold out for the day because.. THERE ARE RESTRICTION IN NUMBER OF VISITORS. 🚧🛑🚧🛑🚧🛑🚧 Timely restrictions will be there in number of visitors allowed per day. The number of visitors allowed may vary from time to time. This is done so as to minimise the degradation of evergreen riverine forest, a forest kind that kuruva is home to.
😏WHAT TO EXPECT 🛶✖️. 🐯🐘✖️ Many people come here expecting to see wildlife, some even expect a chance of white water rafting. Unfortunately kuruva doesn't provide such opportunities. This is a place to feel for ordinary visitors and for those who are purposeful visitors like those who visit places for scientific study of plants, butterflies and birds etc kuruva islands is a paradise.
Bamboo rafting is available here, but rafting at kuruva is to sail a few distance through water on huge rafts made with bamboo which carries 25+ people at a time. These huge rafts are used to ferry tourists to kuruva and back. These huge rafts propels entirely on human effort. There are staffs here trained to steer these huge floating platform across flowing waters just by using ropes tied at both shores of the river kabani. And by the way at kuruva islands kabani is just 50 odd meters wide. So it's no that dangerous to do bamboo rafting here.
There is an amusement park at DTPC entry point. ZIP LINE is installed over there. Kids would love it. Over the counter sales of artifacts and traditional tribal products and forest honey can be bought from shops nearby.
🍌🍜🍛🥘RESTAURANTS/ HOTELS NEARBY: Restaurants/Hotels if you call so are here to cater the needs of tourists, local cuisine can be enjoyed here. Bamboo rice payasam(kheer) is served here which adds sweetness to this place. NOTE: In my opinion, food here is not bad and are decently served.
🙏🙏DO ENJOY THE VISIT AND KEEP...
