Mayyanad is located in the south western suburbs of Kollam district, Kollam city about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) south of the city centre and 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) north of Paravur Town. Mayyanad can be reached by frequent buses from Kollam city and Kottiyam town and by local train from Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram. The bridge connecting Mayyand and Paravur was completed in 2012, making travel to Kollam city easier. We were a group of 4 people and had booked one kayak and a canoe. Both rides were in good condition and we were provided life jackets(which is mandatory over there). There is a small patch of land in middle of the backwater where we can get out of our kayaks and click pictures. We were there during sunset which was the best time to enjoy the sport.
