Muruganmala, also known as Murugan Para, is a tranquil hill located just 2 kilometres from Vagamon in Idukki district, Kerala. Perched on the eastern side of Kurisumala, this captivating hill is home to a unique rock-cut temple dedicated to Lord Murugan, the revered son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathy. Renowned for its spiritual significance and natural beauty, Muruganmala draws both devotees and nature lovers from across the country.

The highlight of Muruganmala is its temple, crafted from a single rock, showcasing the ancient Indian tradition of rock-cut architecture. This sacred site offers visitors a chance to immerse themselves in spiritual serenity while appreciating the artistic heritage of Kerala. As pilgrims ascend the hill to pay their respects to Lord Murugan, they are greeted by a refreshing breeze and breath-taking views of the lush greenery and rolling hills that surround the area.

Once atop Murugan Para, the experience is nothing short of magical. The panoramic vistas, dotted with fluffy clouds that seem just within reach, make it a haven for photographers and nature enthusiasts. Visitors often take leisurely strolls around the hill, soaking in the serenity and picturesque charm of the landscape.

Muruganmala is more than just a spiritual destination; it is a retreat for anyone seeking peace, inspiration, and a deep connection with nature. Whether you are a devotee of Lord Murugan, an avid photographer, or someone looking to spend peaceful moments amidst pristine surroundings, Muruganmala offers an...

Ideal place for short trekking. Not busy. People without serious health issues can try. May take 20 to 30 minutes for climbing. Climbing is smooth except for two to three short steep heights. Past midway is statue of peacock which is beautiful and can be sighted even from ground level. Top of the hill there is a shrine which was closed. Views of the surrounding hills and valleys are very beautiful with clouds and mist. This hill is opposite to Kurisumala and you can have refreshments there and park vehicles. Don't use the road between Thangalpara and Kurisumala as it is under construction and not good for car. Can improve this hill further and attract...

Great spot for a hike! It's moderately challenging with a narrow and slippery path when it's raining, but the stunning 360-degree views from the top make it worthwhile. It's a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and traffic. You'll come across a beautiful sculpture of Murugan's Peacock along the way and eventually reach the Temple of Lord Murugan further up the hill. The trek takes around 45 minutes to an hour, and you'll need to climb a hill to reach the mountain. Don't forget to bring a water bottle for the journey. Once you make it to the top, you'll be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the...

If you’re looking for a hiking destination near Wagamon, Murugan hill is an excellent choice, especially when you can avoid the crowds. The hike can be challenging, particularly if you're not feeling your best, but the breathtaking scenery from the top makes it worthwhile. It’s ideal for spending time as a group, allowing for shared moments and camaraderie. There is ample parking space available below, and if you plan to linger longer, be sure to pack enough food and water to keep everyone refreshed. Overall, it’s a great adventure for those seeking both nature and good company.

Murugan Mala near Vagamon is an enchanting hiking destination, offering a bit of a challenge that's well worth the effort. The panoramic view from the top is simply superb, especially during the monsoon when the rain and mist add a magical touch to the scenery. Along the way, encountering a peacock statue adds a unique charm, leading to a small Muruga temple at the summit. This place provides a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city, making it a must-visit for nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts seeking tranquility amidst stunning landscapes.
