One of the main attractions of Kottiyoor, known as the 'Varanasi of the South', is the Palukachimala. For pilgrims, this place embodies the power and divinity of Shiva and Parvathi. For nature lovers and trekkers, it is a must-see spot The three hills bowed before Parvathi and narrowed themselves as just stones so that she could make a fireplace out of it. The tress too emulated the hillocks and offered their branches as firewood. Parvathi filled a utensil with milk and set it over the fireplace to boil. Beside her sat her husband Lord Shiva. As Shiva let his dreadlock down, the moonlight reflected on the river and stars gazed down. Against the background set by nature, Shiva and Parvathi began their honeymoon. The milk boiled and started spilling over. But, the couple mesmerized by the magnificence of the night had little idea of it. The spilled milk started flowing down the hillocks. Amidst this, the stones again turned into hills. The hill where the boiled milk spilled and flowed thus got the name Palukachimala, according to the myths. Those travelling on the Peravoor-Kottiyoor road can see the three hillocks on the north-east side, right after the town of Kelakam. This is Palukachimala, which always fascinated the pilgrims...

HI I AM ANIL NAIR. SEVERAL TIMES I VISITED THIS WONDERFUL HILL ROCKS . A scenic pilgrim center in Western ghats. Hindu idols remaining , installed by Swami Sathyananda Saraswathi . Now-a-days a pilgrim center & a tourist place. located in Kannur District but boarder to Wayanadu, Kerala State, South India. How to Reach Palukachi? FROM Kannur 74kms, ( By Bus) FROM Thalassery 61 kms, ( By Bus) FROM Mananthavady 27 kms.( By Bus)

Nearest Railway station is Thalassery. Nearest Air Port Karippur ( KOZHIKODE ).

HOW TO START TREKKING ? Those who are visiting Kottiyoor Sri Maha deva Temple can proceed to Palukachi . Get down at Neendu Nokki Town. Pick up snacks, fruits, and water. En-route you won't get anything. hill top no hotels and no staying facility.

From Neendunokki Town you can hire Jeep to foot of the Palukachi hill -Trekking starting point. Even though Journey is through Forest , need not worry about wild animals.

Top of the hill scenic beauty of Kottiyoor. Clouds Moving Down. Kottiyoor Maha deva Temple can be seen from top of the hill and St.Sebastian Church.

You Can see many Hindu idols.

Recently Sree Rama Dasa Misision - Kottiyoor wing constructed a building after a great struggle.

Paalukachimala ( Kotiyoor Side) It's going to be a hard trekking as you have to walk through big stones layed paths and deep forest. But trust me you are going to enjoy. And do plan this trekking with more and more friends as this will sound more fun when you explore the paths and routes. You may get lost at various points, but keep in mind you have to climb up every time and not to choose the path which lead downwards. Your first base point will be a cross or kurishu on a big rock and the next will be a yagam held like tent and from there on you will get to see stone sculptures. Now make ways to get through the forest to reach the view point. PS : 1. Carry loads of water and food as you will definitely get exhausted by the time you reach the view point. (#no littering please). Watch out for leeches. Take bikes and definitely no cars (Still you gotta park your bikes far below and choose your foot). Better use boots and shoes and dark denims. And plan the trip as early as possible so that you can avoid the scorching heat at...

Palukachi Hill is one of the best places to visit in Kannur district. It offers a beautiful trek of 45 to 60 minutes. The best time is right after the monsoon. In non-seasons the best time is early morning or evening. There are two snack shops on the way from Kottiyoor to Paalukachi. Using a two wheeler can avoid walking long distances. Taking care of drinking water will help you to spend more time in the mountains. Leach occurs during the rainy season. The government has also deployed a guard. There are many shortcuts but if you go along the road you will see a cross and then a shrine. The next way is to give the best beauty of the forest. This is a place with good locals. Feel free to visit.

The route shown by google assistant was not the exact one. Once you reach any nearby town ask the locals about the route. Cars and bikes can be parked at the bottom. But parking space is just a narrow road. It's a long trekking to the exact top view point. There is a Cross after some time of trekking, but don't stop there as some would think that it is the top. If one goes straight you can see a broken fence, it is from there the real adventure begins. Trekking through the forest. Be carefull of wild animals especially wild elephants. Confirm with the locals whether any elephants were there recently. On top there is a good view of mountains. After all " the best view comes after the hardest climb ".
