It is located 43 KM towards North from District head quarters Alappuzha, 3 KM from Thaicattussery and 190 KM from State capital Thiruvananthapuram. The island has a total land area of 6 square kilometers. It lies 600 meters to the west of the Ernakulam District of Kerala.

I live here It is a wonderful place Not kind of a tourist spot but still it is has it is beauty It is actually an island You have to take a boat to reach here Government boat service is available here For one side charge is Rs 4/- You can have a one day visit to this place since hotel facilities are not available Then u can hire house boats It is almost a village area even though it is near to ernakulam From ernakulam it is 25 km away It is a kind of village u often dream of without traffic, big buildings,shops,crowd, If u want to take your car with u ,u have to take jankar service ,provided u have enough time to wait for that This place is famous for it is backwater beauty ( vembanad) There is no specific spots here to go and enjoy it is all about the backwater that surrounds this place Then you have number of temples here , in that the must visit one is the vadakkumbagam.It is said to located at the one end of the island.Can reach there by car ,auto or bike. Then you will get varieties of fish here,the favourite one is the karimeen Alcohol,smoking and other kind of activities are not encouraged here It is not much of a tourist friendly place as it is not much of a often visited place by tourist. It is not a big island it has 6km length and around 6km width Road facilities are available here Altogether its nice to have a one day visit here and have your weekend relaxed...
