Poomala Dam is an irrigation purpose dam and a tourist spot situated in Mulankunnathukavu Panchayath under Puzhakkal block in Thrissur, Kerala State of India. In 1939 a division weir was constructed in the Poomala Valley and in 1968 a Poomala reservoir was commissioned. The dam is managed by the Kerala Minor Irrigation Department and is constructed with mud and stone. Poomala Dam was officially designated as a tourist centre by the Home Minister of State, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, on 21 March 2010. The dam is situated 94.50 meters above mean sea level. To its north lies another dam, Pathazhakundu, which presently is oriented only for irrigation. Other facilities in include boating in the reservoir, horse riding, a walkway of 600 metres; a community hall that can accommodate 300 persons; a cafeteria and...

Poomala Dam is a peaceful and nature-rich spot, perfect for a calm and refreshing outing. The surroundings are beautiful and quiet — ideal for those who love being close to nature.

What I love the most is visiting during the rainy season. The water flows down the dam like a waterfall over huge steps, creating a stunning and relaxing scene. It's truly a treat to watch!

There’s boating available too, for those who enjoy being on the water.

However, unlike some other dams, there’s no dedicated play area or park for kids, so it’s more suitable for nature lovers than for families looking for...

A very beautiful place .....I was very happy seeing this place...but got very desperate ...seeing people having snacks and putting the plastic cover and bottles in the waterfall .....nobody was there to control or guide ...visitors are free to enter ..no charges for entry ... The fishes in the water will give you a natural pedicure ....that was a very lovely experience...I kindly request the authorities to properly guide and make the visitors aware ...and make this a plastic free zone by providing dustbin for waste disposal ..this place has the potential to attract many...

Nothing much to see here. It is just a small park near to a small dam in a remote place of Thrissur. The roads to this place are very narrow and bumpy. The park is pretty much empty, nothing interesting in there to see. There is a children's play area which is quite basic. This park and dam area is meant for locals only. Only interesting view here few horses and swans that you may see. If you want to escape from the noise and have some silence, you may like it. Otherwise, it is not worth visiting at all.

Good for a days ride. There is no official parking but here the road are wide and can be easily parked on road. It's a small park. Rest rooms are functional. Even though there is a board that senior citizens are not allowed, on a Sunday we did not find anyone to check. You can go around the park via road and there are other places where you can get down near water. Boating was available when we went

One of the best place to spend time with family. One small dam and it's premise is nice to enjoy weekend evenings especially with kids. Don't expect any shops or cool bar there. Without Google map it is difficult to reach there because of lack of direction boards. If you want to come there don't forget to visit pathayakund dam which is very near to the dam.
