Punnayar falls is a great destination for a one day trip. What makes it special is that a visit to the place offers some trekking and refreshing views. There are 2 distinct locations to enjoy the falls. The nearest and easily accessible is the waterfall B, which is the smaller one. A visit after the rains would be the best, as in the case of any waterfalls. If you return to the road and walk further ahead, you can enjoy a scenic view of the serene valley and then climb down towards the waterfall A. The path down to the falls can be challenging for children and elderly people. Weekends can be crowded with people coming in to spend some time with friends and family. Yet if you can visit when it is less crowded, it can be a beautiful experience. Small cars and two wheelers can be better, as there are some areas where the road is narrow. And if you are carrying any consumables for your trip, Please don't litter the place with Plastic and Waste. Enjoy the beauty and help preserve it🌍

Punnayar waterfalls might be one of those least explored waterfalls in Idukki. There is waterfall A and B at a walkable distance of 10-15 minutes from each. 1st falls was kind of quite easily accessible. But for the beauty of 2nd, you have to go through steep climbs and descends. Is it really worth it? Definitely yes! Visited the falls on 18th October 2025. The road that leads to the falls is temporarily under construction. So if you are going by car, you have to take an alternate route to reach there or you have to park the car and walk another 10-15 minutes till the 1st falls. It's in a remote place and the cascading falls almost resembles the Athirappally falls. Since it's less crowded, you can spend more time in the falls, may be perch upon a rock and enjoy it. But all at one's own risk. The trek till the 2nd falls is not an easy path and I would not recommend it for family of elders and kids, yet there were families with kids and elders.

I could not stop humming the poem "Misty Mountains Cold" from the Lord of the Rings in the course of my hike through place which is the most aesthetically pleasing waterfalls in the state of Kerala (Yes, better than the heavily guarded and overrated Athirappilly by a country mile). To any person who wishes to travel here, there are two waterfalls - A and B. 'B' (pictured here with a dog) is relatively safer and less vigorous than its counterpart 'A'. One can park their car or motorcycle and walk 5-10 minutes to reach 'B'. 'A' is located 15-20 minutes downhill from the parking spot, and the hike downhill and uphill might be taxing for the weak-lunged. Be wary of slippery rocks in both waterfalls. PS: Visit this place as quick as possible since there is a potential for restrictions imposed by the respective authorities.

An unforgettable experience in my life and one of the best ever experience in idukki expedition. A place on a remote area near forest which mainly have three points one is the upper portion of the waterfall, the river then by crossing the river walking through a narrow path we can see the view of a beautiful valley . And then the water fall, path to the water fall  narrow in rainy days it would be slippery any way a small trucking experience, the place is much better than the photographs such an experience no word to expess. a place where we can get relaxed chill on water and be refreshed. The place is not that much dangerous the water level is so low and the rocks can protect us. Moving near to the waterfall is little bit dangerous the rocks are slippery but it is a different experience. As compared to munnar water is not that much cold....but it is untouched... The place is referred to all kind of people, except old peoples.... the two big trees nearby make it much beautiful and the wild ambience is an another feel. Punnayar water fall is situated near kanjikuzhi, idukki which is 25km away from adimali and 40km away...

Punnayar Waterfalls is a hidden gem in the heart of Idukki, offering a peaceful escape for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Often called the "Athirappally of Idukki," the falls are a breathtaking spectacle, cascading down from a significant height into a serene pool. The surrounding area is lush with dense forest, providing a verdant backdrop and a home for various flora and fauna, including butterflies and birds. The journey to Punnayar is part of the experience, with a scenic drive and a short, exhilarating trek through the forested path. This off-the-beaten-path destination is perfect for those who want to avoid the usual tourist crowds. The best time to visit is during or right after the monsoon season (June to November) when the waterfall is at its most powerful. Punnayar offers a truly rejuvenating experience with its tranquil ambiance and untouched natural beauty, making it a must-visit for anyone exploring the...
