Rosemala .Nestled amidst the pretty pristine woods of Shenduruney forests, Rosemala is a well kept secret of Kerala. Located in the Aryanvaku in the Kollam district, the valley appears the unfurling petals of a rose, hence the name. The highlight of the place is that it can only be reached by a 10 km long trek through the jungle. Boasting of panoramic vistas of the gorgeous surroundings, the major attractions of the place are the beautiful woods, a watch tower and the lake. The tourists are welcomed to watch sweeping views of the surroundings and of the lake from the watchtower and also of the mighty Thenmala Dam. The beautiful valley abounds in the bounty of nature and is a mesmerizing place to visit. Rosemala is a hidden destination in Kerala and hence is not very known, even in the region. It is therefore preserved in its virgin state and is not visited by a lot of tourists. You can soak in the serenity of nature and relax and unwind here amidst bounteous nature, away from the chaos and din of the city. Ganapathikunnu View Point is the major highlight of the place that is a vantage point. From here, you can watch the mesmerising views of not only the Thenmala Dam reservoir but also of the pristine lake. There are also surreal views of the coiling valley available below On the way to the watchtower, there are several tea stalls and maggi points on the way that serve delicious refreshments to satiate your hunger pangs. Aside from good food, you can also hear the exciting tales of the locals. Venture out in the dense jungles. On the trails leading inside, you can spot several herds of elephants roaming around freely. However, stay alert and if possible, take a guide...
Read moreRosemala is a very beautiful, secluded eco-tourist destination close to Aryankavu. The destination is a small village with a viewing area that looks over Thenmala reservoir. The road takes you through a stunning forest filled with little rivulets, small animals etc. ending at the final viewpoint. This journey will also cure the 'offroading' itch that certain adventurers have, as the road to Rosemala is barely tarred.
Things to note before going As mentioned above, the road from Aryankavu Jn. to Rosemala is barely tarred and in quite a terrible state. There are very few stretches with tar/concrete, the rest is just mud and rocks which can turn quite slushy during rains. Going up in a car would be a very bad idea if not impossible. You can either take a KSRTC bus, hire jeeps or go on bikes.
Don't be alarmed if you find streams crossing the road. This is a part of the adventure, you're supposed to ride over them :).
In case you're taking your bikes, it should be noted that riding with pillion is going to be difficult in some of the steeper slopes. Always go in a group with more than 2 bikes just to be safe.
There was a previous review that its a strict no for couples, which is slightly misleading. Theres nothing wrong in girls going there, but in general its a good (and safer) idea to go with bigger groups rather than just 1 or 2 people.
The village does not have a lot of shops. So its ideal if you carry food and water with you.
The destination is just a viewing point and nothing more. If you're not a fan of nature and scenic views then this place...
Read moreI recently visited Rosemala View Point in Thenamala, and I must say, it was an experience of a lifetime! However, getting there was quite an adventure in itself.
Pro's:
The view after the trek is simply breathtaking! The panoramic scenery is a sight to behold, and the sense of accomplishment makes it even more rewarding. The experience is truly unique and memorable, making it a must-visit if you're in the area.
Con's:
The drive from Aryankavu can be quite hectic, especially if you're not driving an SUV or 4*4 vehicle. We took our Hyundai i10, which made the ride even more challenging! Jeep services are available, but they come with a hefty price tag of âš2000-2500, which is quite steep. KSRTC bus services are available, but be sure to check the timings in advance to plan your visit accordingly.
Tips:
If you're not comfortable with the drive or don't have a suitable vehicle, consider taking the jeep service or bus. Be prepared for a bumpy ride and potentially long wait times for jeep services. Don't miss this spot if you're visiting Thenamala or nearby areas - it's truly worth the effort!
Overall: Rosemala View Point is a hidden gem that offers an unparalleled view and an unforgettable experience. While getting there may be a challenge, the scenery and sense of accomplishment make it well worth the effort. So, take the road less traveled and soak in the breathtaking views - you...
