Shoolam Waterfalls, also known as Shoolam Falls, is a picturesque natural attraction located in the Piramadam/Onakkoor region of the Ernakulam district in Kerala, India. Situated approximately 35 km from Kochi and about 8-15 km from Muvattupuzha, it is a somewhat remote "hidden gem" known for its serene ambiance and natural beauty. The waterfall features water cascading down a height of over 70 feet over rocky shelves, surrounded by lush greenery, thick forests, and rubber plantations. Visitors can enjoy the soothing sounds of rushing water and the fresh, crisp air, making it an ideal spot for relaxation and rejuvenation. The area is also a rich biodiversity spot, home to various species of birds and other wildlife. To reach the main falls, an adventurous, short trek through the woods is required, which adds to its appeal for nature lovers and adventure seekers. The journey offers scenic vistas and the opportunity to encounter local flora and fauna. There are no entry fees, and the falls are open year-round, with the best and most impressive water flow typically occurring during the monsoon season (June to September). While it offers a tranquil escape, amenities near the falls are limited, and visitors are advised to wear sturdy footwear for the potentially slippery terrain. The waterfall is relatively less commercialized than other major attractions, contributing to its peaceful and untouched natural...

If you're planning a visit to Shoolam Waterfalls, Although the waterfall is open to the public year-round, the ideal time to visit is during the monsoon season (June to September) and post-monsoon, until February, if you prefer to make your visit in pleasant weather. During this time, the waterfall is in full flow, and the weather is delightfully comfortable. Shoolam Waterfalls is a breathtaking natural wonder that exceeded all my expectations. Nestled in the heart of lush, untouched forests, this pristine cascade is a paradise for nature lovers.

The journey to Shoolam is an adventure in itself, with winding trails and the sweet sounds of birds guiding you. When you arrive, the sight of the crystal-clear water plunging down the rocky cliffs is nothing short of awe-inspiring.

The best part? Shoolam Waterfalls is relatively unexplored, which means you can savor the serenity and tranquility of the place. The air is fresh, the water is invigorating, and the surroundings are incredibly peaceful.

I recommend taking a refreshing dip in the pool at the base of the falls – it's an unforgettable experience. Be sure to bring your camera; you'll want to capture the beauty of this hidden gem.

Visiting Shoolam Falls over the weekend was a bittersweet experience. The natural beauty of the falls is breathtaking, with cascading waters set against a backdrop of lush greenery, creating a serene and picturesque environment. Near to the waterfalls there is a very beautiful check dam also..The way to the waterfalls is very steep.. do watch your steps.. However, the experience was marred by the overwhelming crowd and the concerning amount of litter left behind by visitors. Despite the charm and allure of the falls, the presence of plastic bottles, used clothes, and cigarette butts scattered around significantly detracted from the pristine beauty of the location. It's disheartening to see such a beautiful place being tarnished by waste, which not only spoils the view but also poses a threat to the environment.. Let's all make an effort to save these hidden gems so that future generations can enjoy their beauty just as we have.

Shoolam Waterfalls, tucked away near Muvattupuzha, is a hidden gem that’s worth the visit! The falls cascade dramatically from about 250 feet, surrounded by lush greenery that creates a serene and picturesque backdrop. Getting there is an adventure in itself; after a scenic 7-kilometer drive, you’ll enjoy a short walk through a lovely forest trail to reach the falls. What I loved most was the peaceful atmosphere—perfect for nature lovers and photographers. You can spend hours taking in the beauty and snapping photos of the breathtaking views. The area is also rich in wildlife, making it a delightful spot for birdwatchers. It's not overly commercialized, which adds to its charm. If you’re traveling to popular destinations like Munnar or Idukki, Shoolam Waterfalls is a fantastic stop to relax and enjoy nature. Definitely a must-visit if you’re in the area!
