This was my second visit to this holy temple, and this time I came to perform Muttu Irakkal. I arrived around 8 in the morning when the crowd was still small but started to gather as the day went on. By midday, the temple was filled with devotees carrying coconuts for the Muttu Irakkal offering, which is one of the main rituals here, and the Poomoodal, which is fully booked until 2050 and is not open for new bookings at the moment. Despite the growing crowd, the arrangements are excellent, allowing for a peaceful darshan and the chance to perform various offerings. Sri Parvathy is worshipped as the main deity, however there is no idol installed instead a mirror is placed in the main sanctum, and devotees can see a reflection of the deity, though it is often covered with flowers. Sub-deities like Ganapathy, Subrahmanyan, Ayyappan, and Sarppam are also worshipped here. You can bring your own coconuts or buy them from the temple or vendors outside. Before handing them over to the priests for breaking, you should dip them in a dedicated water tank. It's a good idea to bring one or two extra coconuts, as the priests may ask for another if one doesn't break evenly. You can either take the broken coconuts home or leave them in boxes provided at the temple. Free meals (Anna Danam) are served to devotees, and facilities like washrooms and parking are available. To get there: The temple is about 60 km from Kozhikode and 70 km from Thrissur. You can drive via NH66. The nearest airport is Karipur, and the nearest railway stations are Kuttippuram or Tirur, both about a 30-minute drive away. Public bus services are also available from both directions. If you're driving and plan carefully, you can visit Thirumandham temple and the Tali Temple at Angadipuram before reaching here, as I did while traveling from Palakkad I went on to Guruvayoor, Kodungalloor and Varahi temple at Anthikkad on the same day Have a peaceful darshan!

Went on Dec 23, 2024. 3:30 pm session - no crowd at all. Very good darshan. Arrangements are very good, facilities have been upgraded with new structures around with signboards and very helpful staff to guide. ---- Earlier visit Most divine. Here's what we did this time. Landed at 9 pm - 13th Jan Saturday at PK Residency who get the chit and coconuts arranged for no extra charge. 5:30 am we went into the temple on Sunday morning. Authorities guide you well. To help others please have just the coconut carrying person in queue inside the temple. Others in the family can get in and pray. No issues. Prasadam is just outside the sanctum sanctorum. You get chandanam in leaf and also the payasam for which you need to carry a can and also get a 30 rupee ticket (250ml) from the ticket counter at the main entrance. Avoid climbing steps up and down by buying "can" outside first and then the "payasam ticket" at the ticket counter which is at the right side after entering the temple and only then get down the steps to the main temple. 60 rupees for 1/2 litre payasam. There is another to-go tinned payasam which lasts 1 month called "kadina payasam" - 70 rupees per tin. Available at entrance on left side. Can buy at ease after your darshanam. Overall the experience is a very good one and not like other crowded temples these days. See pic of all the 35 muttuarukkals you can do. Need star of the person upfront (which is available on the internet if you give DOB)

Reached here by bus,as the bypass road work is going on the Bus stop is a bit away from the temple road, caught an auto and reached the temple by 4.45pm. Temple opens at 4.30 am in morning and closes at 12 pm., afternoon opens at 3.30 pm and closes at 7.pm, you can only book the muttarukkal vazzhipadu up to 5 pm . At the time of my visit the temple was not crowded, we had a good darshan as almost nearly 50 persons were inside the temple.finished the darshan within half an hour and entered outside. The temple has changed a lot compared to our last visit, the premises are kept clean, the parking area, comfort station, Annadhana Mandapam everything is kept clean. A newly opened free Dialysis centre in the temple premises is working with the aid of temple trustees forming a charitable society is a good move towards the well-being of society who are suffering from Kidney issues. This temple is a must visit when you are in a pilgrimage in Malabar area .

Sree Kadampuzha Bhagawati temple is the famous temple near Valanchery where devotees go for making the "muttarukkal" offering. You can make a muttu offering for the prayer of your choice. For example you can do a aarogya muttu for health , mangalya muttu for marriage, Vidya muttu, karma muttu for job related affairs etc. The concept of "muttu" offering is that you have a "muttu " ( obstacle/stop) to your desire in that respective field. And by making the offering we are attempting to cut it or do "arukkal". You need to specify the name and birth star in Malayalam of the person for whom you are making the offering. For this the procedure is as follows: Stand in the queue for taking the relevant muttu offering and pay money at the Vazhipadu counter. For this you need to have a paper ready with the names and Malayalam star of all the persons for whom you make the offerings and the type of muttu Vazhipadu you are making. After getting the receipt for the amount go to the coconut counter and get the coconuts for the offering. Sit in the chairs provided for the devotees which is actually the queue for entering the temple. This queue moves as per people finishing the offering. The temple is situated after accessing many steps down. So once your outside queue gets shown inside the temple you can sit in the steps, and wait your turn which is controlled well by the Devaswom security staff. Inside the sanctum sanctorum also there is a queue where you can do the actual offering of the coconuts and the broken coconuts are handed over to you. The pujari announces the name of the person/the offering you have made and the star. This procedure is only for those who wish to do the Muttu offering. Other devotees with other offerings for example a Pushpanjali need not stand in the muttu queue and can go directly to the sanctum sanctorum and offer their prayers . Separate entry way is provided for these devotees. Dress code. No footwear allowed inside the temple premises. No shirts allowed for men. No trousers/pants allowed for men and women. You need a dhoti for men (can hire a dhoti outside the entry of the temple). Girls and boys wearing jeans etc can wear a dhoti over their legwear. There is lunch provided free for all devotees at the "Oottupura". Be also aware that a ramp with a wheelchair access is available to differently abled persons who can directly take the ramp and go to the temple with a wheelchair. The temple staff will guide you. There is a cloakroom provided near the entry of the temple where you can deposit your footwear/bags/etc for a nominal fee. There is adequate parking offered as you pass the temple gate and go straight to the grounds. Also a nominal fee for the same. The wash rooms for men and women near the temple premises are located near the ramp access in the parking lot. There are quite a number of vegetarian restaurants near the temple which offer you vegetarian meals as well as vegetarian snacks(tiffin). Kadampuzha temple is situated 70 km from Thrissur; 9km from Valanchery. Travel time from Thrissur is a about 2 hours. Vazhipadu counter Timings are 5 am to 11 am and 330pm to 7 pm. Darsan timings are 430 am to 12 noon and 330 pm to 7 pm Please be advised that you can also make an online Vazhipadu. Please follow the instructions in the website.

If you want to make a muttu offering it is a four to five hours wait on a Sunday; any other offering like Pushpanjali or simple darsan you can go in directly without much waiting. Weekdays everything could be done in...

The origin of Kadampuzha Temple is associated with the Mahabharatha, the ancient Indian myth, considered to be the greatest story ever told. However the temple as such was founded by Shree Shankaracharya and the month he consecrated Kadampuzha Temple, the day of Karthika in the month of Virshchikam(November – December) is the considered the most auspicious day and is celebrated as the festival day.

Shree Shankaracharya, during his Deshadanam, a pilgrimage to various parts of the country, came across this place while he was going to Chottanikkara Temple after his Darshan at Mookambika Temple. When he reached the place now known as Kadampuzha, he found that he could not walk cross and that his way was blocked by a Divine Presence. Even with the superior Sight that could “See” or “Understand” Divine presences, he could not fathom it. Perplexed, he meditated to understand why he failed to fathom the Divine Presence and within himself discovered that having attained the “Sarvaknanapeedhom”, his ego had somehow crept in to make him feel superior and that his ego was being shunned by the Divine Presence, making him unable to fathom it. The Divine Saint immediately set about cleaning his mind of any ego and made himself as humble and pure minded as an innocent child. He approached the Divine Presence again with utmost devotion and supplication and immediately perceived what the presence was and wherein it was emanating from. He marvelled at the Divine Presence of the Devi very strongly bonded with the Divine Presence of Lord Shiva and decided that the place should be treated with absolute reverence.

He discerned that the Divine power is emanating from the hole in the ground and took steps to consecrate the place as a temple and also constituted Lord Narasimha and Sudarshana Chakra in front of the Devi and also decided to place Dharmashasta and Nagakanyaka or either sides of the temple. He also stipulated the poojas and rituals that must be conducted at the temple and these stipulations are followed till date.

Devi is worshiped here in three forms. In the mornings she is worshiped as Vidya Durga(Saraswati) bestowing knowledge and excellence in career to all. In the afternoon she is worshiped as Vanadurga (Durga) in the Twaritha Devi form blessing the devotees with health, early marriage, and domestic harmony and in the evening as Aadi Durga (Mooladurga - Lakshmi) bestowing the devotees with wealth and overall prosperity.

Here, the self manifested Divine Presence, is worshiped as a presence only. Unlike other temples, Kadampuzha is unique in that there are no idols for the Devi.

The origin of the name Kadampuzha is considered to have been formed from;

Kadan Ambu Eitha Uzha – meaning, The Place where Kiratha Shot the Arrow. Kadan is Kiratha, Ambu is Arrow, Eitha is Shot and Uzha is Place.

There is another version also that deems that this place is ;

Kattile Anbin Urava - meaning The spring of compassion in the forest. Kadu is forest, Anbu is compassion and Urava is spring.

The name could not have been formed because of a river here since there are none. So either of the two...
