Read moreI recently visited Thumboormuzhi Butterfly Garden, nestled beside the Dam near Athirapally in Thrissur. As soon as you stroll into the lush, manicured paths, you're greeted by a fluttering kaleidoscope of butterflies—more than 140 to 148 species, including the graceful Southern Birdwing, Light Blue Tiger, Lemon Butterfly, Common Rose, and Dark Blue Tiger .
The experience is magical in the early morning when the garden is bathed in soft light and the colors pop. Butterflies almost as large as small birds add to that ethereal feel . The botanical setup is thoughtfully curated, with nectar-rich plants like Pagoda Flower, Mexican Heather, Flame Lily, Rattle Pods, Rubiaceae, and Heliotropium keralense helping attract and sustain the butterfly population .
Beyond the garden, I enjoyed a gentle walk across the hanging bridge with sweeping views of the dam and Chalakudy River, which opens up access to Ezhattumukham Nature Village . Kids will love the adjacent playground and manicured garden area, making it a perfect family outing .
Overall, the serene ambiance, rich biodiversity, and scenic charm make Thumboormuzhi Butterfly Garden a delightful and peaceful escape into...
