With its marvelous wood carvings, the Udayanapuram Subramanya Temple dedicated to Lord Subramanya is a visual treat for all visitors. It is situated near Vaikom in Kottayam district and is a perfect example of the traditional Kerala architectural style. The temple is considered to be equivalent to the famed Palani Temple in Tamil Nadu and is closely connected with the Vaikom Mahadeva Temple and its festivals. Vaikom

Udayanapuram Subramanya temple is located around 2 km from Vaikom Mahadeva Temple in Kottayam District, Kerala. The 10-day temple festival is observed in such a manner that it ends with arattu on the Rohini nakshatra day in Vrischikam month. Another important festival held in the temple is the Thaipooyam in Makarm month.

The main murti of Subramanya or Muruga is around 6 feet tall from the base (peedam).  The main upa devatas in the shrine are Ganapathy and Dakshinamurthy.

The annual chirappu in the temple is held in Makaram month.

It is said that a Chera king built a temple for Subramanya at Kumaranallor but Goddess Bhagwati occupied the shrine. A temple that was built for Goddess Bhagavati at Udayanapuram then became the shrine of Subramanya.

It is believed that Subramanya or Muruga at Udayanapuram temple is the son of Vaikkathappan (Shiva worshipped at Vaikom Mahadeva Temple). Based on this belief on the Arattu or final day of festival in Udayanapuram Temple, the koodi puja is held at Vaikom Mahadeva temple.

The Kezhshanti (assistant priest) at Vaikom Mahadeva temple is always the main priest at Udayanapuram Temple.

For finding relief to stomach related ailments, brinjal is offered in the temple.

Dhwaja Prathishta in the shrine is also held in...

Udayanapuram Subrahmanyaswamy temple

This very famous temple is very near the famous Vaikom Mahadeva temple and the Kumaranallor Bhagwathi temple . Devotes believe that a visit to The Mahadeva temple is only complete after visiting Udayanapuram temple . The devotees of Palani Subramanya belonging to Kerala consider that a visit to Udayanapuram is equivalent to going on a pilgrimage to Palaani. There is a very peculiar story about the origin of the temple. It seems the temple in Kumaranallore was built with an idea of making it a Subrahmnya temple and Undayanapuramtemple , then known as Udayanayaki puram was intened to house the Bhagawathi(Goddess) .But The Goddess BHagawathi wanted to stay in Kumaranallur and the temple of Subrahmanya was shifted to Udayanapuram. The temple town of Bhagathi was then onwards called Kunaran alla nallore(The good place where Subrahmanya is not there.) The God Subrahmanya in this temple has four arms and neither 12 nor two which are very common. The temple has very large number of carvings , paintings and statues carved of wood and stone. The Thaipoosam festival is celebrated in a very big way at this temple. Similar to Palani temple , large number of Kavadis are carried to this temple. On the last day of the Brahmothsavam of the Vaikom temple. Vaikathappan comes to Udayana puram to see his son., This is celebrated in a very grand way at this temple. Skanda sashti and Panguni uthram are also celebrated at this temple. On the Vaikathu Ashtami day Lord Subrahmanya from this temple goes in a grand procession to Vaikom , This temple is only 2 km from Vaikom...

Udayanapuram Subrahmanya Udayanapuram Temple enshrines Lord Subrahmanya and has close connection with Vaikom Mahadeva Temple. Worship at Vaikom is believed to be complete only after worship in the Udayanapuram Temple too and the famous Vaikathu ashtami festival involves a special procession from Udayanapuram at night. Moreover Udayanapuram is considered to have equal sacredness as the renowned Palani Subrahmanya Temple of Tamil Nadu. The temple has the excellence of architecture in structure and is supported with beautiful legends. Marvellous carvings and mural paintings can be found in the inner walls of Udayanapuram Temple. Located near Vaikom, this Subramanya temple celebrates ‘Thai Pooyam’ festival in the month of Capricon (Nov) and the Ashtami festival in the month of Scorpio. The temple is also famous for its traditional 'Aarattu' after the day of Ashatami. As such the Kartika day and the Shashti falling in the bright lunar fortnight are important days every month attracting a large number of devotees..

This is an evening 7 PM review, so photos have less brightness. One of the best go-to #Subramanium temples en-route to #Shabarimala for families. Udayanapuram temple has rich cultural heritage and Hindu architecture akin to Vaikom Mahadev temple. Ample vehicle 🚘🚙🚗🚲🛴🛵 parking space. The Udayanapuram temple parking is wheelchair accessible, but the entrances are not. The Udayanapuram temple used to have a white colored peacock, though I have not seen it recently. The Udayanapuram temple has more than enough space for numerous people for various functions and festivities. Vehicles parking is not covered, but there are numerous trees to park under.
