Viripara Waterfalls is the best attraction of Munnar and a must visit place. Please find the tips from my experience from Sep 2024 listed below:
Getting there: The google maps pin is the appropriate one and the route from the highway is the best and in very good condition. Do not take the route from Moolakadai. There is no need to hire a jeep to get to the falls and all 2 wheelers and 4 wheelers can travel upto the final parking from where you need to pay the entry fees and walk down via steps for 3 mins to get to the base of the falls. The steps to get to the falls are very well constructed and in good condition. Try to visit on a weekday.
The entry fee: They charge Rs. 50 per person and it is absolutely worth it for the way they have maintained the place and the amazing arrangements.
The Facility: You can get to the base of the waterfalls to take a bath which is very safe. They have created a small bund that creates a wonderful pool to swim. You may also slide down which is a thrilling experience but excercise caution. There is a separate small pool built for kids too. Separate ladies and gents washroom with clean changing rooms are available. The guards stationed at the waterfall are very friendly and ensure the safety of tourists. They encourage you to safely get into the water which is a rarity. This is easily one of the best waterfalls in India due to the amazing arrangements made by the authorities.
Food: Small food joints serving corn and maggi are available near the entrance. There is a nice food joint at the Viripara Junction while taking a right turn to the falls called The Food Point that serves nice Kerala Meals both Veg and Non Veg.
Other Places: Make sure you cover Anakulam with this falls to spot cute elephants in their natural habitat. For spotting elephants at Anakulam, you need to be there after 6 pm. The elephants visit mostly in the dark.
Overall: This is the best spot in Munnar and should not be missed. Other states in the country should learn from the arrangements at Viripara falls and replicate the same.
Kudos to the authorities for making this place...
Read moreViripara waterfall is a great spot for exploring, and relaxing, traveling to see this place through a tea estate, from Munnar to this place around 15 km. From viripara to here is only 4 km and you can go on off-road from viripara (letchmi tea estate photo point)
Truly waterfalls are exploring spots for tourists and some religious sites in many cultures. Waterfalls give good attention as great visions and time of our life.
Here is also a point of the stream that makes water flows from top to down by steep drops. From the top side where the falls begin you can see many mountains and forests. Many explorers have visited this place.
This place goes under the government, and we must obey their rules and regulations. Tourists can visit here at morning 7 AM to before evening 5 PM.
Very calm place to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings and its beauty. Important things to your attention that this place sometimes easily slips while walking on wet rocks, some very slippery rocks are here so you must take care of yourself and make sure your beloved ones are safe.
The best is the water, it's very cold and fresh. Here have a small swimming area and restrooms.
I think that from December to March, there have less water flowing and more tourists came at that time due to their holiday vacations. But in rainy seasons this place makes very high waterfalls. If there have more water in the rainy seasons, they don't allow us to swim there.
Apart from this here develops hydropower, which is the use of water that makes power, and also makes economic...
Read moreThis place is about 20 km from the Munnar town. It is about 7 km from a highway from Munnar to Ernakulam. The road leading to this place is narrow and rough. But the greenery, during the rainy season, compensates for the neck breaking journey. There coffee, pepper and elaichi plantation all over the place. There are a couple of spots in on the way from where we can see the river mankulam. The viripara waterfall is a part of this. Just before we reach the waterfall there is Tata Tea estate. To reach near the water fall we need to trek a few hundred metres along the tea plantation and the path takes you to the foot of the waterfall. The path is pretty rough and it goes uphill. So, be careful when you get older folks. On the way there is a government post where we have to buy entry ticket. ₹20 for going or ₹ 50 for taking bath. Professional cameras are also chargeable. There is trekking facility available from this post @ ₹ 300/ head. Jeep Safari is also available. When you are about to reach the fall, you get to hear the gushing sound of water hitting the rocks. The fall is not steep but there are a couple of small waterfalls. This makes it very safe to take bath in the ice cold water or if you want you can dip your feet while sitting casually on the rocks. The surrounding area is a combination of natural forest, tea plantation and mountain view. It is worth visiting this place if you are going for sight seeing tour toward Kochi (Ernakulam) direction...
