The Chauragarh Temple is situated atop the Chauragarh Hill, the third highest peak of Pachmarhi at an altitude of 1330 m. Surrounded by spectacular hills and verdant valleys, this age-old temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple complex comprises the main temple, a Dharamshala, and a natural pond. The temple is known for the thousands of tridents stuck in the temple premises, offered by devotees over the years.
Devotees need to climb 1300 steps to reach this holy place. During Nag Panchami and Maha Shivratri festivals, devotees are seen climbing this steep path, carrying heavy Trishuls as a part of religious norms. Offering a Trishul is considered auspicious and is like thanksgiving, once the wish has been fulfilled. The view of the sunrise from here is quite breathtaking, so are the surrounding forested valleys.

Read moreWe visited this temple on the top of the Chauragadh mountain on last weekend. It took us to reach on the top in 2 hours at the temple on the top. While trekking you can see awesome sights surrounded by beautiful green mountains. Temple is well built with basic facilities. The iconic bunch of Trishuls standing looks so beautiful.
Monkeys are everywhere you’ll see during trekking. Beware from the monkeys that aways trying to snatch your food. So, be careful don’t eat when monkeys are revolving around you.
Always take a water bottle for drinking and snacks while trekking here. Locals are selling packages drinking bottles too in 2x price.
Only, drawback is there is no public toilets we found. From bottom to the top while trekking. Drinking water is not available even a pipeline is going to the top of the temple. Tourists throw water bottles and snacks empty packets everywhere, cleanliness is lacking everywhere. Local authorities should have a look on this things too. Make this natural environment clean and garbage free.
