From CSMT station it takes around 2 long hours or so to reach the nearest station, that is Bhivpuri Road station. From there you have to walk around 10 minutes or so through Dixal village's interiors. Now you'll reach a certain elevation from where you'll get to admire the beauty of Bhivpuri lake and the grandeur of the ghats surrounding you. They stand tall and invincible, almost as if they were reincarnation of your ancestors and gods of old passing upon judgement over you. Almost as if mocking your insolence to try and dare to scale the lengths and highets of the ghats. The lake's beauty is tempting. So much so that I found it almost irresistible to try not to swim in it. But I had to control my temptations. The lake was like a succubus calling me in, trying to devour me in and through it's beauty. We walked around the lake and walked furthermore to reach a plunge pool formed by a nearby waterfall. It's a nice little distraction but the majesty of Garbett keeps on calling. You walk your distance up to the beautiful rice fields of a little settlement. There are these little pinkish flowers growing along the meadows which never fail to remind me of that scene from the movie The Gladiator, when Maximus (Russell Crowe) thinks of finally getting to meet his family while walking through the fields as he lay dieing. Moving onward you'll have to go through the settlement I mentioned earlier. The settlement shows a rather healthy population of chickens. I guess every household must be having 2 to 3 of them. As you'll walk through, there will be 4 to 5 kids standing to greet you speaking in perfect sync 'bye-bye, chocolate' hoping you'll be kind enough to spare a candy or two. There will be a well which is nor too deep nor too shallow, but just the right size. It is the perfect opportunity to refill your water bottles as no Acqua di Cristallo Tributo a Modigliani would be as pure as this water( by the way Acqua di Cristallo Tributo a Modigliani costs $60,000 per 750ml. Can you believe that?!!!). Now, after all walking and goofing around starts the real trek. If you think you are exhausted, you better gulp in some energy drink because believe you me, you WILL need it! The trek exhausted me to the death. My friends were way ahead of me and my other friend was way behind me. And I am so grateful to the other friend lagging behind, if not for him I would have never got the chance to rest saying, 'hey guys, I'll stay here and check on him otherwise he'll be left behind'. And I swear to God did I exploit him lagging behind to the fullest. After a while of dragging this dead load of meat and bones that was my body, I reached the destination where my friends were(probably) waiting for me. Reaching the plateau is probably one of the most memorable moments of my life. There were many people up there(cause it was a Saturday) yet, I felt alone. In solitude not in isolation. The feeling was so great. It was as if I was close to the ancestors and gods of old that till now, were looking down to me were now embracing me with open arms. From the heights of the plateau, I could see the the lake, the village, the fields, everything and evermore. I laid down on the vast stretch of green and played my playlist of some psychedelic space rock. And just went into retrospect. The music and the place both were great for it. Me and my friends agreed that it's about time we get on our way back. And so started our journey back. Trekking down was tricky because it was raining and it was hard to find a sure footing. Often we would slip or fall, but nothing serious. We endured no injury or hurt, infact it was quite fun. We went back the same way we came( which is not recommend). Trekking to Garbett plateau is a fun getaway for anyone. Most of the people usually come on weekends from Mumbai and Pune. It is one of the cheapest things that you can do on your weekends. Me and my friends were just 5 people and it took around only 250 Rs. per person for such...
