Where it is: Muktai Waterfall is located in the dense forests of Doma village, Chimur Taluka, Chandrapur district, Maharashtra.

Distances:

~22 km from Chimur

~95 km from Nagpur

~120 km from Chandrapur

What Makes It Special

The waterfall cascades down from a 57-feet cliff, providing a picturesque plunge into natural pools; hence it’s called a plunge-type waterfall.

Surrounded by lush forests and enriched with biodiversity, it's a blend of serene nature and rustic spirituality—thanks to the nearby Muktai Temple.

Perfect for short treks, peaceful picnics, photography, meditation, and a dip in refreshing water.

Best Time to Visit

Monsoon Season (June/July to September): The waterfall is most majestic and full, with surrounding greenery at its peak.

Post-monsoon (October–December): Quieter, less crowded, with favorable weather.

Avoid Peak Summer (March–June): Water flow diminishes, and trekking becomes uncomfortable in the heat.

Activities & Experience

Trekking & Nature Walks: The short forest trail to the waterfall is moderately easy and immersive.

Swimming & Natural Pools: Safe for taking a refreshing dip—though monsoon currents can be stronger.

Rock Climbing/Rappelling: Adventure seekers may enjoy climbing under guidance; always proceed with caution.

Birdwatching & Photography: Great opportunities for spotting and capturing local birds and lush scenery.

Spiritual Visit: Many visitors combine the waterfall visit with blessings at the nearby Muktai Temple.

Picnics & Relaxation: Calm, shaded areas make the ideal backdrop for food, meditation, or peace.

Visitor Insights & Practical Tips

Free entry: No official fee, though a nominal parking charge (~₹40) may apply.

Facilities: Basic stalls nearby sell snacks like bhajiya and water. Changing rooms are mentioned by some visitors but may be limited.

Crowd: Popular during weekends and holidays. Best to visit on weekdays or post-monsoon to avoid rush.

Wildlife Caution: There are occasional wildlife sightings (like a reported tiger). Follow local safety advice.

Eco-awareness: Authorities recommend visiting between 9 am–5 pm, avoiding cooking or risky selfies, and keeping the site clean.

What Visitors Are Saying

Google-based Reviews (via Top-Rated.Online): A strong 4.2/5 from over 1,100 reviews suggests a reliably positive experience.

Locals emphasize:

“Nice place during monsoon. Just 2 hrs away from Nagpur city. Roads are in good condition... Great enjoy with friends or family.” “Best visit time… rainy season and in winters from August to January… No ticket… Free… Plenty of parking… Food stalls available.”

Word-of-mouth: Some exaggerate rush by saying “more people than water,” but...

Muktai Waterfall, nestled in the Sahyadri mountain range of Maharashtra, India, is a captivating natural wonder that embodies the raw beauty of the Indian landscape. Situated near the village of Muktainagar in Jalgaon district, this waterfall is a hidden gem, renowned for its serene and untouched ambiance.

Muktai Waterfall cascades gracefully down a rugged cliff, creating a breathtaking spectacle as the water plunges into a pristine pool below. The waterfall's drop is not exceptionally high, but its charm lies in the way it integrates seamlessly with the surrounding environment. The water, fed by the seasonal rains, maintains a constant flow throughout the year, though it is most impressive during the monsoon season when the volume of water is at its peak.

The surrounding area of Muktai Waterfall is enveloped in lush greenery, with dense forests and vibrant flora enhancing the overall allure of the location. The sound of the cascading water, combined with the chirping of birds and the rustling of leaves, creates a tranquil atmosphere that is perfect for relaxation and reflection. " Muktai Waterfall "

This place is lesser known to people because it is far away from main road and there is no buzz or word to mouth in tourist.

It is nearly 40 km away from Pauni Taluka, And 2 hour drive from Nagpur.

There is a one-way road to reach there and most of the people can't find it because there is no sign board towards the waterfall.

Local people will guide you to the place so feel free to ask anyone on road. Specially police officer have Chauki there so you can ask them for route.

About the place :

It's Rocky Mountain and you have to climb / walk through Rock's.

Reaching on the top you will find 3 things

  1. Monkeys 🐵
  2. Muktai Mata Mandir
  3. Waterfall

The main waterfall is enjoyable but you have to be very very careful walking on the rocks. Is slippery and dangerous.

Keep your shoes on while approaching towards waterfall. Only Men's usually head up for it.

Second small waterfall is safe and family can enjoy there. Children, girls, Women (over all all family) can enjoy there.

[[ There is no place to change clothes, No bathrooms No Toilets, No Shop's, No Medical facility if you get injured ]]

Season :

Obviously Rainy season.

Caution :

  1. Be aware of Rock's.
  2. Keep your bag of clothes with you.
  3. Carry one first aid kit (just by chance anything happens)
  4. Be in a group
  5. Don't leave children for anything
  6. Don't get carried away for selfies, Safety and enjoy is important.

Enjoy.....!

Muktai Waterfall is naturally wonderful place. For nature lovers its not less than Heaven. Of course it's Waterfall so it largely depends on Rain, right now i.e monsoon months July onwards till monsoon is best time to visit the place. Be it from Chandrapur or Nagpur people who know about this place, visit very often, from distant places. Families, Friends, Couples this place is for everyone, people visit in Tempo Travelers, cars Two Wheelers, Bolero Pick up. You park your vehicle in the parking zone, which is very big ground, with sufficient parking space, then you'll find various stalls of snacks, bhutta, also there's a small Temple so you'll also find related things. Then like a small treck you have to climb the rocks and small hill which is very easy to do. Slowly and slowly when u get near to the waterfall, you will hear two things, loud noise of the waterfall and noise of the people enjoying in the waterfall. After enjoying the waterfall, do climb up the cliff from where the water falls, very shallow water, people lie down there and enjoy. Before Chandrapur monsoon ends you should definitely visit the place.

It's an amazing water fall inside Forest. It's located in chandrapur district we have to take road from shankarpur to reach muktai . There are two water falls here. 1st we explored Waterfall named as "muktai". This place is too crowded but the falls view is breathtaking! We enjoyed here alot we had so much fun here . As here we can stand below the fall and enjoy the fall of water .Then after that we left for zari , a trek of 1 hour into the forest and crossing two small water crossing (6m depth water ) by walk finally we reached the other Waterfall named as "jhari". It's very amazing and beautiful and little more risky. This place is deep inside the jungle and it has risk of wild animals and sudden water rise while crossing the jungle , although Good and adventurous place in forest. This is a perfect peaceful fall with no public interactions . Make sure to have a safe, dry place to store your camera near waterfall.

Nature's beauty at its peak. If you wanted to visit calm, silent and beautiful place where you can get peace of mind from inside, then you must visit here. The chirping of birds and the sweet sound of water, you can never take such experience in your home in the city. Pros: The downrush of water from waterfall with a slow speed. Even 7+ children's can also enjoy bathing(under the guardian's surveillance). Have a good chance to see river's origin. Beautiful Nature.Visit with family or friends as per your choice. As there is no danger but be careful. Cons: The government is supporting but not as much as it should. Not good arrangements for tourists. Note: Must visit in rainy season 😉 and don't forget to like this review(it makes me happy😁)
