On this weekened, after completion of office hours we suddenly made a plan to explore Mulshi Dam. Although I've been in many places of Maharashtra, but never heard about this place earlier. So, firstly I was not very excited as I was thinking that there will be nothing special in this place. It was around 55 kms away from our office and took around 2 hours to reach to this place as halted multiple times for tea break. We started at 4.30 in the morning and reached there around 6.30am. After crossing Pune, roads are not in good shape and construction work is going on. Being the starting of December, the place was bit cold. We enjoyed the sunrise at Mulshi standing in the cool breeze of winter. Ample parking space is available for visitors. Zen Resort is located there where one can opt for stay at cottage or tent. They also have a restaurant where you can have your food if you are on a day trip though the varieties are quite limited in number. The beauty of Mulshi just made me spellbound. The place is less-crowdy and very scenic. You can go to the river by trekking. Due to time constraint we went till half of the way and came back. This place is ideal for family, friends or couples. If you want to listen to the sweet melody, then the chirping sounds of the birds will fulfill your soul. If you are a nature lover, then the blue river, green carpet of trees and the beauty of western ghat will...

Nestled in the lap of the famous Western Ghat Range of hills in Maharashtra, Mulshi dam or lake is a real bliss to see. The place is around 45 km from Hinjewadi, Pune which takes around 1 hr 15 mins to reach there. Once, The city fringes are over, the road turns hilly and panoramic views of the Western Ghat ranges are visible. The hues of green fields in the laptop of the stony hills creates a genuine peace to see. Especially in the season of mansoon the entire area turns completely green and there are temporary water streams across the roads or by the side of the hilly boundaries. This is one of the nicest road trips near to Pune which ends nearly at the lake or the dam. The view of the dam surrounded by the hills is magnificent. There are few popular waterfalls near to this lake white people can enjoy with their friends or families but of course with due care, since the roads, steps or boundaries turn extremely slippery this time. There are many food stalls and cafes around, among which sweet corn is very popular and that goes by the monsoon weather as well. There are ample places for parking. Kids will enjoy this place very much, since nature has poured so many beauty ingredients...

Swathed amidst dense trees, Mulshi Dam proves to be an amazing weekend getaway from Pune. The luscious area around the dam is dotted by many forts, bridges, and waterfalls. The dam is the favorite spot for the visitors as here they get ample opportunities to go on trekking, bird-watching or just take photos. If bowled by the beauty of the place then stay at any of the hotel close to the dam.

ADDRESS

Mula River, Taluka Mulshi, Pune, India

GETTING THERE

Since the dam is close to the highway, it's not accessible by a rickshaw but the buses do run from Swargate daily at 07:45 AM. The last bus returning from Mulshi is at 8 PM, so it is advisable to plan the travel accordingly. Taxis too are easily available from anywhere in the city to reach the dam. Drive to the temple is beautiful.

THINGS TO DO & SEE IN AND AROUND

Around the dam, one can visit the lake, and Tamhini Ghat, which are good spots for picnics. Also worth a visit is the century old Vanjai mata temple. Adventure enthusiast can go for trekking and camping...

Nice place to hangout Mulshi is the name of a major dam on the Mula river in India.[1] It is located in the Mulshi taluka administrative division of the Pune district of Maharashtra State. Water from the dam is used for irrigation as well as for producing electricity at the Bhira hydroelectric power plant, operated by Tata Power. The station operates six 25MW Pelton turbines established in 1927 and one 150MW Pumped Storage Unit. Water from this reservoir located in Krishna river basin is diverted to the Bhira power house for generating Hydro electricity. In 1920-21, during the construction of the dam and power station, Pandurang Mahadev Bapat led Mulshi Satyagrah, a movement to represent farmers whose land had been taken to build the project. He was dubbed Senapati (commander) in recognition of his leadership.
