Purnagad Fort, a historical marvel nestled along the Konkan coast of Maharashtra, India, offers a unique blend of historical significance and breathtaking natural beauty. This fort, though perhaps less known than some of its more prominent counterparts, provides a serene and enriching experience for those who venture to explore its ramparts. A Journey Through Time: The fort's origins are deeply intertwined with the region's rich history, particularly the Maratha era. While precise details might be debated, its strategic location overlooking the Arabian Sea underscores its importance in coastal defense. Walking through the fort's ruins allows visitors to imagine the lives of the soldiers and inhabitants who once occupied this stronghold. The weathered stone walls and remnants of bastions whisper tales of bygone eras, creating a tangible connection to the past. Panoramic Vistas: One of the most compelling aspects of Purnagad Fort is the stunning panoramic views it affords. From its elevated position, visitors can gaze upon the vast expanse of the Arabian Sea, the meandering Muchkundi creek, and the verdant landscape that surrounds the fort. The sunsets here are particularly spectacular, painting the sky with vibrant hues that create a truly magical atmosphere. The combination of historical architecture and natural beauty makes for excellent photography opportunities. A Tranquil Escape: Unlike some of the more crowded tourist destinations, Purnagad Fort maintains a sense of tranquility. The relative lack of commercialization allows visitors to truly immerse themselves in the fort's serene ambiance. The gentle sea breeze, the sound of waves crashing against the shore, and the quiet rustling of leaves create a peaceful and relaxing environment. The nearby temple also adds to the spiritual and calm atmosphere. The Experience of the trek: The road to the fort can be a little rough in places, and some parts are off road. This can add to the adventure, but makes it important to have an appropriate vehicle, or to be prepared for a bit of a walk. The final approach to the fort involves a short trek, which, while not overly strenuous, requires comfortable footwear. The trek itself is a pleasant experience, with scenic views along the way. The trek also adds to the experience of reaching the fort. In summary: Purnagad Fort is a hidden gem that offers a unique and rewarding experience. Its historical significance, stunning views, and peaceful ambiance make it a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts, nature lovers, and anyone seeking a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life. It is recommended to visit during the cooler months, and to bring water, and...

PURNAGAD FORT

Purnagad fort is situated on a mountain which is at the origin of Muchakundi creek. This fort is having a small area but the bastions are having a very strong construction. One can view the entire fort premises in a sight.

The fort is having two doors, one facing east and the other facing west directions. The fort is very close to the village- Purnagad. It’s a ten minutes walk. The main entrance door is a very robust structure between the two bastions. There is a Hanumanji’s deity and a well at the entrance. The well is presently dry and in startled condition. There is no arrangement of drinking water at fort premises. Pictures of Moon, Sun and Lord Ganeshji are carved onto the main entrance door. A vestibule of security guards are present on the either sides of the main entrance door. There are stair cases from four sides up to the top of the fort. A mind blowing scene of Sindhusagar (Arebian sea) can be clipped from the top. According to some evidences, this fort was constructed by Ch. Shivaji Maharaj, but some evidences suggests that, it was constructed by Shri. Sakhoji Aangre, son of...

This place has historic importance You get better view of the area Area wise this fort is small as compare to ratnadurga get close in evening Reaching here is quite difficult Take the road which goes along with sea ( off-road) If you are planning to visit this place on four wheeler then I'll recommend that your car must have sufficient ground clearance because it's completely off road (300-400mts) once you pass over head bridge Parking space is available Although covered in thick vegetation and overgrown trees, this small fort is in good condition. The main entrance door and its Buruj, the boundary wall, are still in good condition. The fort is very close to the village of Purnagad, a 10-minute walk away. From the top of the fort there is a fascinating view of the Arabian Sea, Muchkundi Creek and the surrounding places.

Purnagad Fort is a small, restored fort in Ratnagiri district, Maharashtra, India. It's located about 25 kilometers from Ratnagiri Town and near Maharashtra State Highway 4. Some say the fort is well-maintained, has nice views of the sea and creek, and is good for photography. Others say it's the only restored fort in Maharashtra and the cutest fort in Konkan. The fort has redone walls and amenities for visitors. You can park your car and walk to the fort, or take a backside road that's only good for SUVs. Purnagad Fort is said to have been used as a base for Kanhoji Angre's ports, to defend and raid British forces, and for trade with other Europeans. Some say it was built by King Shivaji, while others credit Maratha Admiral Kanhoji Angre
