Shingroba is the patron deity of Borghat. When there was no express way between Pune to Mumbai, this was the only road. Heavy trucks used to negotiate difficult hair pin bends up the ghat (Marathi word for mountainous road). The traffic used to be heavy and continuous. One had to pass this stretch as this was the road connection not only between Mumbai and Pune but for the South India from the Mumbai harbour. Shingroba was a shepherd who misguided the British army under Mount Stuart Elphiston in 1778 while invading Peshwa. Britishers were finding a pass to raid Lonavla plateau from Konkan. Shepherd Shingroba mislead the invading army in thick jungles. Invaders killed Shingroba after realising his trick. His ' Yadgari' memorial stone - was made here.
