Bhagwati Temple is on Ratnadurg , a fort in Ratnagiri city of Konkan area of Maharashtra. Very strategyic fort to check advanced of both Siddhi of Janjira and British navy. It was acquired by chatrapati Shivaji Maharajas in 1670. It was held by Marathas and the prime ministar Peshwas till British won it in 1818. It has a lighthous installed on one of the hills. Also, it has "Shivsrushti" a theme park on Ch. Shivaji Maharaj. Bhagwati Temple has an interesting story connecting Kolhapurs Devi Ambabai- Mahalakshmi, to Devi Bhagavati. It is believed that Devi Bhagawati is from Kolhapur. The story line goes like this.. Three demons (Asur, Rakshas) Kolhasur, Karveer, and Ratnasur were defiant and Ambamata decided to kill them. Mata killed Kolhasur in a fierce fight. Kolhapur was established at that location, Karveer was killed and Karveer Nagari came up. However, Ratnasur was very strong . Amabamata was not able to defeat him. Amabamata worshiped Bhagwan Shankar for two years. Shankar Bhagwan was pleased by her devotion and gave her two deities. Temblai Mata and Devi Bhagwati. The trio defeated Ratnasur. After that Amabamata stayed at Kolhapur, Temblai near Kolhapur , and Devi Bhagwati reached...

Bhagwati Mandir which is situated inside the Ratnadurga Fort & is a holy place and a must visit point for all nature lovers. I bet that sunset view from the hill is a worth time to spend with your friends and family. There is a small shop which serves Tea and Snacks, however one can buy the needed stuff right from the city. The best time to visit this place is September/October/November as the weather is amazing and less cloudy so you don't miss out the sunset part. I will honestly request all my fellow countrymen that do not litter as it spoils the cleanliness of the place. Ratnagiri name comes from the Ratnadurg Fort's name, though history does not mention much about this place but the place is still good. Ratnagiri is on the way of NH-17 which connects Mumbai and Goa. You can have speciality sea food of Ratnagiri, however for vegetarian the delight place is Hotel Mithila or Ganesh Bhuvan. There are lot of good resorts and beaches around the city, including Ganpatipule which is just an 30 mins drive away place. You can buy Cashew, Alphonso Mangoes, Amba Wadi, Fanas Wadi, Kokum, Kokum Juice/Aagal as these are...

The Serene Heart of a Historic Fort Visiting the Bhagwati Temple was a highlight of our trip to Ratnadurg Fort. Nestled securely within the ancient fort walls, this temple is a beautiful sanctuary of peace and spirituality. The moment you step inside the temple complex, there's a tangible sense of calm that contrasts wonderfully with the rugged, historic fortifications surrounding it. The temple is very well-maintained, clean, and has a powerful, divine atmosphere. Taking a moment for darshan here feels like connecting with centuries of faith and history. After paying our respects, we stepped back out to the breathtaking panoramic views of the Arabian Sea from the fort grounds. The combination of the spiritual serenity inside the temple and the majestic natural beauty outside is truly a unique and memorable experience. It’s the spiritual soul of the fort, and a visit to Ratnadurg is incomplete without spending some time here.

During our trip to Ratnagiri in Feb 18, I have visited Ratndurg fort with my family. Ratndurg fort, is also known as “Bhagwati cha killa” and it's not hard to see why. The famous Bhagwati temple stands at the highest point in Ratnagiri's upper fort. This is a very beautiful temple located on the Ratnadurg fort, it is about 3 to 4 km away from ST stand Ratnagiri. The temple is very clean, quiet, peaceful & huge in size. Temple is made at the center of place. During Navratri, a huge festival is organized in this temple. During our visit we walked along the side wall and saw the amazing view of the sea. While going to the temple, take an auto or your any vehicle to visit the place else you need to take a long walk. You can take your vehicle up to the hill. You can go to light house also which is situated on the fort.
