I recently had the divine opportunity to visit Shree Mahaganapati Temple at Ranjangaon – one of the eight revered Ashtavinayak temples dedicated to Lord Ganesha. The temple is believed to be the place where Lord Shiva worshipped Ganesha before fighting the demon Tripurasura. The idol here is known as Mahaganapati, a powerful and majestic form of Ganesh with 10 trunks and 20 arms (though the original idol is kept hidden in the sanctum and shown only on special occasions).
The temple architecture is stunning – a beautiful blend of peace, spirituality, and historic charm. The calmness and spiritual aura of the place are truly mesmerizing. It is well maintained and organized for devotees, even during weekends and holidays.
The temple complex is clean, with ample space for parking, and basic amenities like toilets and drinking water. There are shops outside selling prasad, flowers, and souvenirs. I recommend reaching early in the morning or during the evening aarti time to avoid rush and experience the serene atmosphere.
The drive from Pune is smooth and scenic (approx. 50 km), making it a perfect spiritual getaway. This temple is often visited as part of the full Ashtavinayak Yatra, but even if you’re visiting individually, it leaves you with a sense of divine satisfaction.
🌟 Tips for Devotees:
Mobile phones and cameras are allowed, but photography inside the sanctum is restricted.
Wear comfortable footwear (to be removed before entering the temple).
Try the local Maharashtrian food in the nearby stalls.
🙏 A must-visit spiritual destination that combines devotion, history, and tranquility. Truly blessed to have experienced the divine presence of Mahaganapati Bappa!

Beloved Bappa's eight reverred destination! Ranjangaon Mahaganpati! It is believed that Bappa resides at this place for his devotees to fulfill their wishes! The temple is located alongside Pune- Ahilyanagar highway near Shikrapur. It is approximately 50 kms away from Pune city. Ranjangaon bus stand is close by. The original idol is known to have 10 trunks and 20 hands. This temple was developed by Madhavrao Peshva 1 and later by Sardar Kibe.
The temple is a beautiful stone walled structure with spacious and airy surroundings. Temple premises houses a pilgrims residence (bhakt niwas). The queue is long but moves fast. There is an option of faster darshan using queue passes. There is a beautiful garden surrounding the temple with animal sculptures.
The idol has been placed in the temple premise in a manner that during specific time of year the sunrays fall on the idol. The Shree Ganesha diety residing here is also known as 'Mahotkat'. It is said that Lord Shiva invoked Shree Ganeshas blessings here to defeat Tripurasur. Hence the place has special siginficance on Tripurari Pournima(full moon) and also Bhadrapad (6th Hindu month of the Indian calendar system) Ganesh Chaturthi.
This shrine is visited eight in sequential (Shastrokt) Ashtavinayak darshan. In the same sequence one must also visit the Moreshwar temple of Morgaon post Ranjangaon Mahangapati temple visit, marking the completion of Ashtavinayak yatra!
When in this place make it a point to stroll the local market for variuos fresh veggies, fruits, dried fruits etc.
My sincere best wishes to all Bappa devotees who embark on the journey of Ashtavinayak yatra or simply visit this temple on its own!
