Good place, now it's a good museum, must visit place. If you like history, you should enjoy here.Who have interest in Archeology must visit. The Soneri Mahal is the last palace, still in good condition at Aurangabad. The palace is located within the walls of the university. It is immured in a garden with a massive rectangular door. This gate is called Hathikhana which means the place of the elephants. The door is made of Islamic style arches. Soneri Mahal means the Golden Palace (Mahal) (Soneri). That name comes from the original color of pure gold that adorned the interior. This palace was built as a thought between 1651 and 1653, by a chief bundelkhan (region of India between Uttar Pradesh and Madya Pradesh). We only have a few references on Paharsingh and his brother, Juzarsingh. What we know also is that the latter was sent to Shah Jahan in the Deccan Valley to accompany Aurangzeb, the governor of the region. We know that the Soneri Mahal was the home of Paharsingh and his family. Paharsingh died in 1653. The palace passed from hand to hand before becoming a regional museum in the 70s. Many changes were made to transform the palace into a museum and little remains of the original structure. The first modification that can be seen and the creation of the basin which occurred in 2001 with the aim of harmonizing the places with surroundings. One can see the will of the conservative to make this garden a little more Mughal. In the 70’s when the palace became a museum, the arches were closed with bricks and plaster. In the second room, one can admire the remains of the paintings that adorned the whole palace

This building is situated in the suburbs of Aurangabad. The name is derived from the fact that this palace was decorated with paintings of gold, which have all disappeared now. This was the residence of the king of Ichha who helped Aurangzeb to conquer Dakhan. This majestic palace, built is a Rajput Style had cut plaster and five lion decoration like gleaming mirrors. The grandeur is long lost. The gateway is there but the compound wall has disappeared into ruins. This palace is where the Ajanta and Ellora cave festivals are now held. Many famous artistes, dancers and musicians come here for the four day long festival which lets you enjoy the complete experience of Aurangabad. At this time of the year the palace is decorated like a bride with lots of shining lights and decorations all over. It looks as if it is a grand celebration going on here. At this time only you can also enjoy the beautiful panoramic view of the surrounding scenery here. The festival here showcases the talent of experts in the field of classical and folk dances and also pure classical and folk musicians who come here to perform. This is the festival that was used to be celebrated in the Ellora caves before. Photography is allowed without any extra charge here. The best time to visit is during November as the festival is held during this time. Rs 50 for regular show passes.Rs 150 for season show passes.Rs 500 for donor passes.Rs 10 for Indian citizens.Rs 100 for foreigners

Soneri Mahal (Golden Palace) is a historical building in the city of Aurangabad at the foot of the Satmala mountain ranges. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University is located in the area. The golden palatial building with small mountain ranges behind it looks like a picture. The surrounding trees, meadows and fields add to the beauty of this building. The structure got its name as Soneri Mahal because the Darbar Mahal paintings on the ground floor of Soneri Mahal were painted with real gold water. History The palace was built by a Sardar from Bundelkhand who came to Deccan with Aurangzeb. Some available evidence suggests that Shah Jahan sent two brothers, Pahad Singh and Zhunjar Singh, to the Deccan. During the reign of Aurangzeb, Pahad Singh showed his loyalty to the Mughal Empire by performing feats from time to time. Later he lived in the golden palace of Aurangabad. Another support for this evidence is that there is a memorial to Pahad Singh’s step brother Lala Hardaul outside the Soneri Mahal. Soneri Mahal is a monument built in AD. Probably built between 1651 and 1653. 50,000 rupees were spent to construct this building at that time. In 1934, estimating the original price, the then Nizam of Hyderabad State bought this palace from Sawai Mahendra Virsinhdev Bahadur of Orchha for Rs 26,400.

The palace was built by Bundela King during Mughal period. The palace was the official residence of Paharsingh, the Bundelkhand chief. Even today, the nearby area is called "Pahadsinghpura". The expenses incurred for construction of the palace was around 50,000 rupees in the year 1652. Soneri Mahal has an entrance which is dominated by a highly impressive and dominating gateway. It also has an arched compound wall. Soneri Mahal has pillared front and several rooms resting at the building’s back. The upper levels of palace can be accessed by two narrow staircases. A small museum dedicated to Aurangabad and Indian history is built on first floor. This is a historical Palace which have derived its name from the golden paintings that adorned it in the past. These paintings have now faded, leaving the two-storeyed spacious building, which has a Rajput style architecture. The Palace now has a museum within which exhibits ancient pottery, sculptures, household items, antiques and remains of local palaces. This museum is situated in Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University campus. You can see the palace from outside and imagine the grandeur past that it has been through.
